Today we’d like to introduce you to Issa Martin-King.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Issa. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Sinfully Unique Treats was born eight years ago in Atlanta, Georgia. I had the idea of making customized treats for people but I never put the fire behind it to start… It was an idea. When I lost my job in Atlanta I decided to move to Dallas to be closer to my brother and his family. One day I was going through some old notebooks of mine and found my ideas I had written down about creating this awesome candy apple store. I hadn’t seen or heard about anyone here in Dallas making candy apples (besides the fair) So I said ok Issa it’s your time. I was worried about how I would go about doing treats along with working a demanding 9 to 5 which required me to travel a lot. My fiancé at the time said Go for it, stop sleeping on your dream Issa… I listened
I began making gourmet candy apples here in Dallas back in 2013 officially. I wanted my apples to be different you know not your basic red apple or caramel apple I meant different. I had many trials and errors when I first began making apples because the key part in making a beautiful bubble free apple is making sure all the wax is off.
So the first apple I created was the “Candy Overload Apple”. It was a watermelon flavored apple topped with cotton candy, lollipops, gum and other candy pieces. I dentist nightmare lol. That apple took off like crazy everyone wanted one when I posted it. I figured why not branch out and do more flavors and today I have over 50 flavors and can do any color or theme. Sinfully Unique Treats also does other treats such as gourmet rice krispie treats, decorated oreos and even stuffed cheesecake apples. Today my business is thriving and I am so blessed and thankful to everyone that has supported me for the last five years. Everyday I am learning new techniques and methods to broaden my menu items.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The main challenges I have dealt with is trying to stay ahead of the Candy Apple World. Like I stated before when I began there wasn’t too many people doing what I do and now it seems like everyone is doing treats especially Candy Apples. Another big problem is people stealing pictures of your work or ordering from you and selling the items as their own. So staying on top of your work and learning what sales best is always a challenge for me because often times you have to figure out what works best for your business.
It has been also very hard to maintain a side business when you work a real fulltime job. There have been many times I have jumped off a plane and came straight home to work on orders that were due the next day. Team no sleep is a real struggle but I get it done for my clients.

Sinfully Unique Treats is a Gourmet Treat Business based in Grand Prairie Texas that started in 2013. We specialize in Customize Treats such as Theme/Character Candy Apples. We offer treat table packages that include items such as candy apples, candy popcorn, cotton candy, gourmet oreos, chocolate covered strawberries and so much more.
What I am very proud of when it comes to my company is that we are always evolving and keeping up with what are clients are looking for. I am constantly taking classes or trying new techniques so that I can stay ahead others that may be doing the exact same thing. I strive to be different.
What sets me apart from other is I am Unique I will always try to go the extra mile for clients. I am here to offer them amazing edible art.
What were you like growing up?
I was the only girl out of three kids and I was the middle child… I was more interested in my books than anything else. In the sixth grade I learned how to play the cello which I played all the way through school which lead me to get a music scholarship. I had my heart set on being a lawyer and took criminal justice in college.
I am a very fun loving person I enjoy making people laugh which is funny because my cousin is always telling me I should have been a comedian.
