Thanks for sharing your story with us Jacob. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Hello, I am known by J’Smart. I was born and raised in Dallas, TX along side my twin brother Joshua Smart. I am a singer & socialite. Everyone in Dallas knows me by a song that was about me called “Like Mr. Cirque” by CSB. From there, I went into pursuing my own music career and have recorded multiple songs. I released my first single in 2015 which was called “Fly N****”. Since then, I had taken a three-year break from music due to me doubting myself and not knowing if music was in my plans or if it was something that God himself had planned for me. To be honest, I don’t think I was ready and I know that know that know that I have entered my 30’s. I do feel like 2019 will be a great year for me. New music & a possibility of me doing reality TV.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been a smooth road for me due to me knowing I am different than what you see in an everyday guy. I dress different & look different from your everyday typical male, so I think before someone gets to know me they judge me and say that they don’t want to work with me at that time until they sit down with me and have a conversation and see how driven and intelligent I am.
Alright – so let’s talk about your work. Tell us about J’Smart Music – what should we know?
I am not a business owner as of yet, but I would love to own my own clothing line and furniture line one day. I am currently in the beginning stages of finding producers and writers for my EP that will be released later this year. I am so excited about it because I can hear it in my head already and if it goes according to plan it will def be one of the best R&B EP’s! I always had an ear for music and what I love about music is the songs on albums that are not the singles, I always love the “stand out track” or the “filler” song on the albums so I want to make a whole album of stand out tracks to where you will not have to skip on song.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I have to Brandi’s that are really special to me in my life. Brandi Vonne (SummerTIme Fine Fitness) and Brandi Maxiell (Basketball Wives & Brandi Maxiell Cosmetics), they are always pushing me to be better & do better. I really appreciate them both because they are two successful women that are close to me as a family. Brandi Vonne is my best friend and she always tells me I have so much more to offer than what I am currently doing and she’s always there for me to catch me when I’m falling, she has yet to let me hit the ground and for that, she will always be someone that I cherish. Brandi Maxiell is almost like a therapist to me and someone that I call my cousin, lol, “you know we all have that one cousin”, ever since I met her she has instilled in me that I need to go for what I love and have a better relationship with God. She pushes me to my limits with all the tough love she has to offer and she always tells me the truth even if its something that I don’t want to hear. She has always tried to help me with my future if it’s just introducing me to someone in the industry or even just bringing me up to people when I am not even around. So, I would say they deserve the credit. I have one more person I would like to acknowledge and his name is Freddie, he is my producer and the best writer that anyone can ever ask for. He’s always pushing me when Im doubting myself or even when I feel like I wanna give up on my music. He’s the one person that always say “I’m not letting you give up” so I think when it comes to my career he will always have something to do with it due to him always being genuine and always listening to me when it comes to what I want in music & to be honest, Freddie has really taught me almost everything I know about music. So, appreciate him more than he would ever know!
