Meet Jana Cooper of Nevesta Boudoir in Firewheel Town Center Mall – Garland

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jana Cooper.

Jana, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My journey began almost 20 years ago. When I graduated high school in 2000, I went straight into college. I studied broadcasting and photography. I got a job at a CBS affiliate my first semester of college, as a part-time photographer, writer, and production assistant. I have worked for television news, newspapers and radio stations.

While in college, a friend asked me to help photograph a wedding. I loved it so much, I did it part-time for the next 17 years. Though, I learned on a film camera, I enjoy the digital age. I have been full-time for almost 18 months and my business has just exploded.

I absolutely love weddings, but my heart is at home with boudoir photography. I began in boudoir photography when my brides asked me to take some sexy photos for their new grooms. I absolutely connected with this form of photography. I named my boudoir line “Nevesta” which is the Russian word for bride in homage to my Russian heritage and the brides who directed me down this wonderful road to my destiny.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing that is valuable is ever easy. Owning a business is always a challenge. I think the most difficult part for me was finding my niche. I enjoy all types of photography, but I found that boudoir is where my art and my heart meet in harmony.

I enjoy meeting new people, hearing their stories and relieving them of the world for a day. My make-up artist, Lisa, and I make our clients feel at home when they come to Nevesta Boudoir. We want women to leave their worries at the door and leave with amazing images and positive experience. Boudoir is enriching and empowering. Every woman should have this experience at least once in their lives.

Please tell us about Nevesta Boudoir.
We are a boutique boudoir photography studio located in Firewheel Town Center in Garland, Texas. Nevesta Boudoir focuses on very feminine, light, airy images. We offer boudoir, maternity boudoir, and milk bath sessions.

I am genuinely honored to lift other women up in love and understanding. I want to help women see themselves in a more positive light. I have struggled with my weight for the last eight years after being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. I understand the self-deprecation that flows through my mind when I don’t match society’s beauty standards. The fact is, all women have value. We are all beautiful. I have a wonderful husband who reminds me every day. I hope to pass on the self-love he has given me, to every woman who enters my studio.

A butterfly cannot see her wings, but the rest of the world can. Just because we cannot see our beauty sometimes, doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. This is where I come in. I will not only help her see her wings, but I will photograph them, so she doesn’t forget.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Oh, I loved going to the beach. I lived in Corpus Christi for most of my childhood. I enjoyed taking photos of the sunset. Of course, back then I used a 35 mm film camera. Those were the days that made me happy.
