Today we’d like to introduce you to Jared Thorne.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Growing up I always had a love of listening to beats and instrumentals, and always was trying to figure out how to put multiple sounds together to make a complete record. At the age of 12, my brother introduced me to music software and he showed me how to create music from scratch. Fast forward, after high school I ended up studying music production at Collin College, graduating with an Associates Degree in Audio Engineering. As I progressed in music production, my dad presented to me, an opportunity to submit music through a website called Blazetrak and from there that’s when I won a producer competition. Because of that win, I met with a couple of A-list producers and Music Executives. From 2014 through 2016 I competed in music competitions and beat battles. Doing the beat battles and music competitions, I was able to make a name for myself in the Dallas community. It wasn’t until October 2016 when I learned that I got my first ever placement on the show Empire and as they say the rest is history. With my wife’s blessing, I quit my 9-5 to pursue my dream. Now my job is music full-time, working with other producers and artists. It’s really been a blessing.
Has it been a smooth road?
It’s always been a struggle! In the midst of my hustle, I met my wife, had a full-time job, went back to school – graduating with a Bachelors Degree, had two girls. So between all that, I was balancing time with music in every day life, so time management is a very important key. There was a period in music where it was very hard to find artists to work with, producers to collaborate with, and to find great, quality songwriters. For the longest time, I was just making beats and I was kind of stuck trying to figure out what’s the next step for myself and my career. But then once I learned the importance of networking, everything started coming together. Opportunities were presented and from there that’s when things start rolling for me. Doing music has always been a dream, but you know, life happens. You just have to roll with the punches sometimes, and always give Glory to God. If you’re not struggling, you’re not doing it right.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Basically, my company obviously is, I am an Executive Music Producer, Audio Engineer, Sound Designer, and DJ. What I do for my company is, I mix and master sessions, produce records from scratch or oversee artists’ projects. My proudest moment thus far for my company Executive Produced two albums for two different artists. I really had to step out of my element and comfort zone for both, so being able to do a completely different genre each time, was really challenging. I’m also signed with Van Stripling of Culture Unlimited, a Management Company. I don’t like to think of him as a Manager, but rather a Business Partner. He plays a big role in my company’s success.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yeah, in my opinion, I feel like Dallas is finally being recognized in the music industry. Although most of my connections have been outside of Dallas, it’s still a great city to get started. We are a tight-knit community.
