Meet Jason Sanchez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Sanchez.

Hi Jason, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was led to Real Estate by a few things, but ultimately my entrepreneurial spirit and my need for a better living situation led me to Real Estate.

A couple of years ago I was in a bad situation, I was working a job I hated going to and coming back to a house I hated living in. By this point, everyone in my family had practically abandoned our family home so I was pretty much holding onto it by a thread. We had fallen behind on payments and it looked like any second now we’d be losing the house so that’s when I got to googling, “how to avoid losing your home to foreclosure?”.

Eventually that googling led me to learning a lot about Real Estate and that’s when I realized just how valuable this house really was, no matter how ugly and lonely it was. I realized that if we could hold on to this home, we might be able to get out of this struggle we were all living through and that eventually, we might even be able to gain prosperity from it. So, then I finally decided that I was going to get my Real Estate license, for one to make sure I learned all I could to keep us from losing this home, and second, to finally make a living doing something that I actually loved, and thus my Real Estate journey began.

Fast forward to today, I’m no longer in that old and unwanted home, I actually sold it this past November and I’m glad to say it’s become a fresh start for both of my parents. Along with that, me and my girlfriend bought our own home last summer and I’m now on year 2 of what’s become a prosperous and fulfilling career in Real Estate.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Not at all, aside from the struggles that I lived through in that house from having to take showers with a bucket in 40–50-degree house to having to cook with an electric burner that barely heated up all because we had no heat, gas, or even a functioning shower; I still had to get my Real Estate business up and running with no prior connections or a mentor/team at all.

Going into Real Estate I knew it wouldn’t be easy, but I’ve been fighting through adversity my whole life so I was up for the challenge. Nonetheless, I still struggled a ton, as a realtor your commission-based so if you don’t sell, you don’t get paid so to offset the times when I wasn’t making any money with Real Estate, I drove delivering food for Postmates; it’s safe to say I hated doing that.

All in all, the hardest part was not seeing all my hard work lead to success early on. I was working my ass off; studying my contracts, going to training, and doing my best to market myself, but I was seeing very little rewards for all my hard work. All that led me to bouts with my confidence and belief in myself and the process, the two things that always helped me push through, and I remember moments when I was ready to give up and go get a full-time job doing something else, but ultimately, I toughed it out.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Real Estate?
Though I also dabble in working with investors, I specialize in residential real estate with a special emphasis in helping First Time Home Buyers.

Ultimately, I think what sets me apart from other Realtors is that I’m authentic and true to myself. I’m just a regular guy who happens to sell homes; I play video games, listen to music, play with my dogs and watch sports just like any other person and I think that’s what helps me connect with people from all walks of life. One of the things that always attracted me to real estate was the fact that I could be my own boss and therefore, could represent myself exactly how I wanted to. I don’t wear suits 5 days a week or post nothing, but Real Estate content because I’m not a robot, I’m simply a human being who just wants to live his life by his own terms.

More than all that though, I genuinely love to help people out, especially fellow minorities like myself who often lack the resources and representation to make their homeownership dreams come true. Growing up the way I did, I was never taught about the importance of saving, investing, credit, or financial literacy in general. Everything I learned I had to find out for myself, so now that I have some knowledge and a bit of a platform, I try to do my best to help out those that need a he

What I’m most proud of is the fact that people see me as someone who genuinely cares and wants to help them. I work with a lot of First Time Home Buyers, many who come from similar struggles like the ones that I’ve faced in my life, and nothing makes me happier than knowing that I’m helping them change their lives just the way real estate changed mine. My biggest mission when working with someone is not only ensuring that they get their dream home, but that they get it through a comfortable and joyful experience.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
These past two years have definitely taught me a lot, but one of the most important things would be just being able to quickly adapt to change in all facets of one’s life. I started taking my Real Estate classes literally a month before the city shut down so it’s safe to say my original plans for the beginning of my career took a complete left turn. Now that we’ve seen a slight return to normal, it’s once again forced me to alter the way I do business so adapting to change has been a constant in my new life and I’m sure it’ll continue to be that way for the foreseeable future.
