Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeanette McCullough.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Jeanette. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I got into real estate at age 21. At that time I was a single mom struggling to keep the lights on. I desired so much more for myself and my daughter. I heard one of those “get rich quick schemes” on the radio one day and decided to check it out. I had nothing to lose and it was free. It was a Robert Kiyosaki event held in Frisco, TX – “How to Gain Financial Freedom through Real Estate Investing”. At the end of the event, I remember the instructor saying “to get started in our program today it’s on $30,000”. I quickly gathered my things and snuck out the side door. That event sparked a fire that quickly grew into a flame.
I started researching all things real estate and decided to get in on my level. I took $200 from each paycheck and paid for a course through Champions School of Real Estate because I couldn’t afford to pay the $1200 at once. In 3 months I had completed all my pre-license courses. I took a month to study for the exam. I passed my real estate exam days before my daughters first birthday. I knew then we were on our way to a better life. I had no idea it was take much more time than I expected. Becoming a Realtor has taught me patience, persistence, and steadfastness. The success did not happen overnight, nor did it happen in the coming months. I did not close ONE deal my first year as an agent.
There were times I wanted to quit but my dreams always pushed me forward. I took a step back from being an agent and I began working as an assistant for ICON agent Darien Hall. I learned everything I needed to know by being around him daily. I would sit at my desk and listen to how he would talk to people on the phone, how he would handle every part of the transaction from start to finish. He may not have realized it then, but he was grooming me to be a Diamond in this business. After two years as his assistant, I reactivated my license! This time I was ready and success was inevitable!! In just three months I hit my goal for the entire year. Success is a process! Trust the process. Go through it! Grow! and eventually, you’ll win!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It was tough! A lot of people look at Realtors and think our job is easy, but it’s honestly one of the hardest things I’ve done in life. Choosing to become your own boss is a huge responsibility. It’s either sink or swim. I learned to have fixed focus – meaning no matter what the circumstances were around me I would stay focused on the end goal. I knew that if I could manifest it in my mind/heart, it could become a reality. I had enough people doubting me so I couldn’t doubt myself. As much as I wanted things to happen overnight, I knew patience was a requirement.
