Meet Jeff Sperring of Hand and Stone Massage & Facial Spa in Irving

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeff Sperring.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jeff. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Born and raised in Pittsburgh during a time when the area was transforming from a blue collar, steel mill, culture to a white collar, technology and medical focused city. Oh, and it was also a time that we earned the phrase “City of Champions”.

I am married to my high school sweetheart. Neither one of us could drive when we went on our first date. And now when I drive with her, I still get the feeling that I don’t know how to drive! She is my best friend (I know, a cliché comment about your significant other but after forty years of being together who else would be), mother of our two daughters (now successful in their own lives), and what I live for.

I earned a degree in Industrial Engineering from Lehigh University. Spent time in the systems world before moving into operations where the bulk of my career spanned. I ran operations for a number of companies and industries in a number of different locations which provided me the opportunity to see many different parts of the world.

Unfortunately (or maybe not), after almost 30 years in the business world, the business world got tired of me and I grew tired of the business world. So, in July 2013, we decided to put our fate more into our own hands and run our own business.

We spent many months investigating, meeting with, talking to, and fully vetting a number of franchise opportunities, some of which, look back on it all, I wonder what we were even thinking. We decided on the spa industry, and Hand and Stone specifically in December, 2013 and opened our doors about four months later on April 5, 2014. Why? It is a true pleasure to be able to help people relax, improve their health and well-being, and simply forget about whatever is on their minds for an hour or two!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Every business has potholes. It is how you can fix them quickly, steer around them, or get your car fixed when you hit them head on.

Our road certainly had its share of potholes and new ones continue to crop up almost daily. Learning a new business was the first. What works and what doesn’t when it comes to location selection, marketing, customer service, employee relations all come to mind.

And then there is that start up period when you don’t think you will ever turn a profit.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Hand and Stone Massage & Facial Spa – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
As the name states, we are a spa that performs a variety of massages, skin care, and hair removal. What we offer is the ability to restore, refresh, and relax our clients.

One of our specialties is our use of both hot and cold stones to address specific needs. Our stones are constantly in motion as opposed to most spas that will place the stones on a client and have them stationary.

On the skin care side, we offer a host of treatments to help with any number of skin conditions. From a cleansing and relaxing facial to our exfoliating facials including chemical peels, microderm abrasion, LED, and even micro-current treatments to help life the muscles in your face.

We are most proud in our attention to customer service and building relationships with clients. We want to know something about each client that works through the door. That is what sets us apart as well.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Change is a constant whether big or small. We consistently introduce new techniques on both sides of the business (massage and esthetics). New ways to market ourselves. New employees to groom and grow. New clients to wow!

Looking forward to having enough capital over the next few years to redesign the look and feel of our lobby to make it even more inviting.
