Today we’d like to introduce you to Jen Broyles.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Jen. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’m a Holistic Health and Nutrition Coach. I help individuals restore their health with simple, practical solutions that are natural and safe.
I grew up only knowing about conventional healthcare. When you’re sick, you go to the doctor, and you get medication. As an adult, I wanted to serve people in the area of wellness, and pharmaceutical sales seemed to be a natural fit. I quickly realized that medications weren’t the solution to many of the chronic conditions that are so prevalent today.
Then, I started to experience my own health challenges, and the traditional medical route didn’t offer the solutions I was seeking. I saw numerous specialists and no one could tell me what was wrong. As I pursued all of the conventional avenues to heal my body, I came up empty-handed, and I was forced to look elsewhere.
The first place I started was nutrition. I read tons of books, and my eyes were opened to the world of functional and integrative medicine which I didn’t know existed at the time. It was the avenue I had been searching for, and I returned to school to study integrative nutrition.
Over the years, I was exposed to many pharmaceutical “bandaids” to help resolve gut issues, anxiety, hormone imbalances, and skin issues. These “solutions” included antibiotics, antidepressants, anti-anxiety meds, birth control, among others. Rather than addressing the problem, they simply masked the symptoms.
Through nutrition school, training with functional medicine practitioners, and my own research and experience, I’ve discovered effective ways to support, nourish, and heal the body naturally.
It’s about supporting the body and giving it what it needs to restore balance, health, and vitality.
That’s why I’m so passionate to help people overcome their health challenges and achieve their wellness goals in a natural, sustainable way.
The human body has amazing healing capabilities when given the chance.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Completely changing my career path, leaving a financially successful career, and starting my own business from scratch has been a great learning experience! Figuring out the best marketing strategy and business structure has been a process and has evolved over time.
I think the biggest thing I’ve had to overcome is my own mindset. I’ve had perfectionistic tendencies since I was young and have learned that those behaviors can sabotage your efforts if you’re not careful. I’ve never done as much personal development work as I have since started my own business. I have a background in sales and marketing, but promoting myself and my services was quite uncomfortable in the beginning.
Entrepreneurship forces you to become aware of your limiting beliefs about yourself and your abilities as a business owner. If you allow self-doubt and fear to creep in they will sabotage your efforts, and prevent you from sharing your gifts with the world.
I feel this process has enabled me to be a better health coach as well. Your thoughts and emotions play a big role in your physical health. So, I’m able to help clients get better results in their physical health by addressing underlying emotions and beliefs that might be keeping them stuck.
Over the years, I’ve worked with a lot of clients and together, we’ve achieved great results in their health. This is the part that is so rewarding and is the whole reason I do what I do.
Tell us about your business. What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
As a Holistic Health Coach, I help busy people regain their health and vitality through the implementation of quality nutrition, sleep, stress-management, and detox. I love helping people understand the importance of prioritizing their physical, mental, and emotional health to be their best self for others.
My specialties include nutrition, gut health, adrenal fatigue, chronic stress, detox, and essential oils. I take a holistic, mind-body approach to wellness. It’s not only great nutrition or exercise. Optimal health requires several components. We must address nutrition, physical activity, mental and emotional stress, detox, gut health, sleep, and other factors.
I don’t teach people how to diet because diets don’t work long-term. In fact, calories are not a focus. We focus on quality vs. quantity. The goal is to implement practices that are sustainable, so they become lifelong habits. They become your way of life.
I help clients discover and address the root causes of their imbalances and challenges, whether it’s weight gain, digestive issues, inflammation, anxiety, or sleep problems. I guide clients through nutrition and lifestyle changes that restore the body.
Often times we incorporate natural solutions in the form of essential oils and whole-food supplements that support the body in optimal healing and recovery as well.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I had a great childhood. I was a competitive gymnast, so my routine was pretty structured. But the summertime was more laid back. I lived in a wonderful neighborhood in Atlanta Georgia, and there were a lot of other kids my age. Almost every day during the summer consisted of spending all day at the pool. We would be there from early morning swim team practice till early evening swimming, lounging, and playing pool games. It was so much fun. Then, we’d come home for dinner and oftentimes, neighborhood kids would come over and we’d play on the trampoline. Summers were the best.
Play is incredibly nourishing to the mind, body, and spirit, and kids do it so well. As adults, we tend to cut out play in our lives, which is a really sad and detrimental thing. Play is a critically important component to wholehearted, healthy living. We are designed for play at all ages, and it’s something I’m trying to be better at personally and something I encourage my clients to incorporate as well. It’s important that we find time to do things that are fun and exciting and nourishing to our souls.
