Jenn, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
It all began when Karey Burke, Dawn Olmstead and I threw a facial-themed birthday party that made us face some facts: most professional facials are pricey, time-consuming, and, frankly, intimidating. We hunted for a high-quality facial we could afford to turn into a habit. It didn’t exist so we decided it was time for the world of skincare to get a makeover.
We imagined a place for everyday people to get fantastic, spa-grade facials for roughly the price of a good mani-pedi. Our vision was a fun, fresh destination with an upbeat attitude and an uplifting message of inclusion. A place people could be together, feel good and take great care of their skin.
We knew we needed exceptional experts, so we brought in dermatology legend Dr. Harold Lancer as our consulting physician, hired a team of superstar esthies, and launched our first Haus in L.A. in 2013. Flash forward to today, five locations in LA and our first out of state locations opened in Dallas and New York City last month!
Has it been a smooth road?
The road is never smooth or straight but that’s what makes it interesting! Inventing a new concept, disrupting an industry, pushing into unchartered territory- all hard! If you allow the nay-sayers, the odds, the critics and the unknown stop you from something, you’ll never know what would’ve grown from an idea. The key is to surround yourself with supportive, positive people, to know your own weaknesses and partner with people who fill those gaps. This has been the key to our growth and tackling all the issues that emerge along the way.

What truly sets us apart from our competitors is our open concept, our accessibility, and our affordability- all without compromise in quality of services. We are extremely invested in innovation in both technology and service, excited to have just brought on a new head of innovation that brings 30 years of incredible experience to our discussion table. We also have the best esthies in the biz and are proud to showcase them – front and center – on our web site, social channels and other marketing materials. They are truly the heart and soul of the brand.
Our products are on par with the highest priced, luxury spas- at roughly a third the price. Our open concept also creates a new model that now shifts the traditional spa facial experience to one that is social, lively and feels great to be in. You will never hear whale sounds or elevator tunes- great music, and you can come with friends, host parties, and not be isolated in a dark private room.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My co-founders are incredible, high-achieving brilliant women that inspire and care for both what they do professionally and for their awesome families. (We have 14 kids between us!) The newer members of our Face Haus partnership team are equally incredible, fantastic people who bring a wealth of experience and wisdom to this growth process. The key is collaborative, open-mindedness, honesty, and respect for each other.
I oversaw our company for the first four years and once we joined forces with our partners in early 2018, I took on the role of Chief Creative Officer. Our team functions in a collaborative, round table way that is continually pushing to think smarter, outside the box and in diverse ways. The vast array of talents and experience within this group is critical to the growth, the insight, the differentiation and innovation of the Face Haus brand.
And most importantly, Face Haus would be nothing without the talent, motivation, and care from our front line team. Our esthies and guest service associates are the foundation of all that Face Haus is- they deserve the credit!
