Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Blazek.
Jennifer, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have always found joy in helping others feel good about themselves and reach their full potential. My various roles in the community as a Child Life Specialist, Teacher, Professional School Counselor, and Licensed Professional Counselor have taught me many life lessons about how to grow myself and others through a loving and supportive lens.
This past year I opened my own counseling practice to continue to empower others in a cozy, safe, collaborative setting.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Going into private practice as a sole entrepreneur has definitely been a journey of learning. I am so grateful for my community of colleagues, friends, and family who have helped me learn the world of opening a business. Networking with such incredible women in the DFW area has been a great asset to help me grow as a small business owner. If I have questions, I have a team of people in my community that I can reach out to help me find the answers. This community has been specifically impactful with the current COVID-19 pandemic. It’s a tough time to be a small business owner, but together we will make it through. Now is the time to support ALL small businesses!
We’d love to hear more about your practice.
My practice in centered around having a counseling relationship with my clients where they feel safe to express their true self. Counseling can be a very fulfilling yet messy process, and it’s important to have the right counselor by your side.
In my counseling practice, I see ages ten and up. I treat clients who may be currently experiencing anxiety, depression, a major life transition, grief, postpartum, trauma, stress, a chronic medical condition, and more. I use a combination of evidence-based counseling and coaching styles depending on client’s unique needs such as Adlerian, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solutions Focused, Child Centered, and Positive Psychology. I also have specific training in trauma, play and activity therapy, and parent/child relationships.
Through a collaborative relationship, I work with clients to openly and honestly create a deeper understanding of one’s unique self as well as their relationships with others, build confidence and self-esteem, identify attainable short and long term goals, increase awareness of emotions, and instill hope in the journey ahead. I believe in creating an environment that feels safe, loving, and playful.
I am currently accepting new clients, and am able to provide phone/video sessions to Texas residents.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I could do it all again, I’m not sure I would do anything differently. I truly believe my journey through various jobs, meeting new people, working with diverse populations, overcoming life obstacles, and pushing myself to keep growing has brought me where I am today. Each struggle is another push forward.
