Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Bradley.
Jennifer, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’m a native Texan (born in Wichita Falls, TX, graduated from High School in Kingwood, TX (Houston area) that moved to Los Angeles immediately after high school to pursue acting and singing. Modeling for major hotels and cosmetic brands kind of fell into my lap, even though I was told in Dallas I would never model because of my height, etc. I am only 5ft 4 inches on a good day, and honestly modeling was not something that had appealed to me. My love was performance, and I quickly became a singer at the Venetian Hotel, a model for Bellagio Hotel, Sahara Hotel, and acquired a top agent in Los Angeles that had high profile clients such as Skeet Ulrich, Rose McGowan, and a young Drew Barrymore. During this time, I developed extremely sensitive skin issues from the heavy makeup that was applied for photo shoots/commercials. My skin was very fair, hard to match, even for the pros on set, so it became a challenge for me to come up with solutions for my acne prone, extremely fair skin.
My mother is a makeup artist, and I grew up in the cosmetic industry because of her. I loved makeup, but most of all, I love science. Process of elimination, experimentation, research became my life. I also truly am obsessed with color and skin tone, as I feel that most all companies take the wrong approach when matching clients skin tones, and they never put the skincare aspect on the front burner; it was always an afterthought.
Since 2002, I have been developing medical grade skincare (no fragrance, no fillers, less ingredients, plus anti-inflammatory properties) as well as professional quality cosmetics meant to help heal clients with acne, rosacea, and signs of aging. In a short amount of time, I have been blessed with over 9000 clients nationwide, a bit of a cult following, and far bigger sense of purpose overall. I love helping clients heal their skin far more than getting a spot on national TV shows (I’ve worked on shows such as South Beach on UPN, VIP with Pamela Anderson, indie films, over 16 national commercials and music videos). This is my life, my purpose, to help others, and I feel so blessed to be able to do this on a daily basis. I look forward to opening up my flagship retail front in South Florida in 3 weeks, and I have my sights on Dallas next. I love my home, and no one knows beauty like a Dallas woman does.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It is never a smooth road, as an entrepreneur! Ha! That is part of what makes it so fun.
In 2009, at the height of what I thought was the height of my career, I was fortunate enough to have been the makeup artist to celebrities such as Michelle & Barack Obama (for the Ellen DeGeneres Show) Pamela Anderson, Sharon Osbourne, Kelly Clarkson, and the products that I had developed were being used in Mercedes Benz fashion week by major companies. I became a top seller on Amazon.com practically overnight and was selling worldwide. HSN was grooming me to be the next product on their roster, and I had a backer. Everything was going in the right direction, so I thought. I also had booked a spot on a TV show, had walked the red carpet as a new “up and coming star” (hahhahhaha sounds so silly to me, really in hindsight) My commercials that I shot for HSN were going national. Things were “getting real.”
Then, all of a sudden, it was like dominos, it seemed. My backer lost a fortune in real estate. I was sued by Avon over a name dispute, and I just couldn’t understand it. I was nobody, but Avon was coming after me over what seemed like an arbitrary issue. I had a major relationship breakup. I had to start over. I didn’t have a choice otherwise.
Those challenges made me who I am today, and forced me to become Jennifer Bradley Cosmetics. JenniferBradley.com I have learned to be a true Texan woman: strong, resilient, resourceful. I am truly thankful for those challenges, and realize that having been forced with so much adversity in such a competitive field has given me the tools to do what many others have not been able to do: Be Completely Unique. Be Yourself. Be True to your customers first. Everything has fallen into place in a much better way since then. Now, I have thousands of clients all over the US, and I have successfully worked outside of the “system,” to create phenomenal products that help women with sensitive skin.
Jennifer Bradley Cosmetics – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I create the very best medical grade skincare and cosmetics for sensitive skin, and I am known for my personal touch with helping clients all across the US achieve their skincare goals. I’m proud of the relationships that I have with my very loyal clients, and proud of working outside of the system to be successful. Word of mouth, FB, have been my biggest assets. I love my customers!
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is simply making a living doing something that you love that changes the lives of others in a positive way.
