Meet Jennifer DeLuca of Grace Designs in Lakewood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer DeLuca.

Jennifer, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My love of jewelry began as a child in Amarillo when my best friend and I would play in her mom’s jewelry store. In high school and during college breaks, I worked in her jewelry store, Dazzle. During this time, I also began to love fashion and enjoyed following trends in fashion magazines and catalogues. Another strong influence was frequent family trips to Santa Fe where I fell in love with turquoise which continues to be frequently used in my designs. After I graduated from Vanderbilt University, I worked in the advertising industry but began to explore jewelry making. Several college friends and I had trunk shows featuring jewelry and other accessories. When I married and had kids, I put jewelry design aside. Four years ago I made a piece and several moms at my son’s preschool began asking if I would make them one and if I would consider having a show. That October a friend hosting a missions market talked me into having a booth. I truly credit her push for my reentry into jewelry design. I began having quite a few trunk shows which lead to by appointment shopping in my home. During our recent home renovation, we converted our former dining room into my workspace and showroom. This year I also began wholesaling.

Has it been a smooth road?
Overall, it has been pretty smooth. One challenge was a growing business as we welcomed our third child. Managing my design schedule on the days the baby is not in school can be tricky as small beads and jewelry tools are tricky to have around curious, active toddler. Another challenge has been figuring out how to streamline pricing to accommodate for retailing and wholesaling and managing the volume.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I’m a handmade jewelry design business. That strives to incorporate a unique twist on current design trends. I’m known for my commitment to customer service, pricing that appeals to various budgets and the unique twist on current trends. Both my pricing and the unique spin I put on my designs set me apart from my competition.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
