Meet Johnathan Kaufman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Johnathan Kaufman.

Johnathan, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
It’s actually a funny story of how I had gotten into this business. I actually used to do some modeling, just building my portfolio and helping my photographer friends with their portfolios with just doing different concepts. I actually always loved photography especially looking at different, old photographs, and always wanted to emulate that aspect.

The way I really had gotten into Photography was due to a friend of mine (who was a photographer) needed a second “shooter” on her shoots. So I grabbed one of her cameras and started shooting. The picture she posted actually had gotten a lot of love. It really inspired me to want to shoot more (I already had a camera at home, my parents never used). So that was generally my way into photography.

Has it been a smooth road?
For the most part, it has been a really smooth road. I’m still learning different aspects, and coming up with different concepts. I’m honestly just really learning, (I always try to learn more each day). I like to look at old movies, so that’s one way I always try to look towards. The challenge is to use that style with trying to make modern.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with J. Kaufman Photography – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Well, my business is very straightforward, its just photography haha, but the things I try to set apart are my black and whites, along with my understanding of artistic realms of learning the tricks of the camera. I just really like to create art, and let people interpret for themselves what they want to see. I really love doing out of the world concepts or aspects that nobody really does not use any more.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What can I say !! my City is the greatest in the WORLD haha, there’s nothing like Compton/Los Angeles, I always try to learn something new about my city everyday (Especially since I am a history major in college).

I try to bring that nostalgia back… but I will say traffic is terrible hahaha. There are always places to shoot, along with there is always a place to be that is a photo moment. I love going to Downtown L.A. to see all the old buildings and architecture and thinking “ahhh… that is a photo, I have to come back.”
