Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonny Ngo.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Jonny. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Being raised by immigrant parents means that you do all you can to be successful. They wanted me to be a doctor, I just wanted to be creative. Be it with a pencil, a computer or a camera, I always saw beauty in the world and I wanted to capture it all to share with everyone. I attended High School at North Garland High where I joined the newspaper and year book staff which increased my interest in design and photography. My first job was for a huge company where I was a software engineer sitting in a cubicle for 9 hours a day but secretly wanting to go out, talk to people and create art. I saved up for months and bought my first camera. That was 12 years ago and I haven’t looked back.
Has it been a smooth road?
The road has definitely not been smooth. I was constantly bullied growing up, from being called “chink” to having rocks thrown at me walking home from school. The older I got, the more I found that race played an important role on how people perceive you. So I found art as my way to escape, and all the obstacles did was push me harder to be successful, to work to be great at all I do. I wanted people to see the world through my eyes, as beautiful as it is. The thing with photography is that it is a medium that is constantly evolving and growing, you have to learn and grow with it. There will always be that learning curve. If you’re not struggling, you’re not working to be better at what you do.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
When people ask me about my company, I always tell them it is a hobby that has taken over my life. It is a passion, not a job. How many people can say that they capture memories for a living, that live in a moment frozen in time. I am a photographer that specializes in memories on one of the most important days of your life, a photographer that captures love. As a wedding photographer, I get to see people at their best and love at its fullest.
What makes me different from other photographers might be the passion I have for it. I want to capture everything as I see it. My photos are vibrant, colorful and soft. They portray a sense of mood and magic.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Dallas is one of the most beautiful cities I’ve ever seen. We have beautiful parks, amazing architecture, culture and art. The city itself is more than just a setting, it is a part of my art. It gives my photos life, compliments it in a way nowhere else can. Driving a few minutes in any direction, and you will get something amazing different to capture.
I think Dallas is a city with the best photographers around. No is no better place to start, the community here is always willing to lend a helping out, give advice and encourage success. The city has always welcomed photographers with its beautiful skyline and eclectic neighborhoods.
