Today we’d like to introduce you to Joplin Lu.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I began playing the piano and violin when I was 3 and became a viola player at age 15. I hold a Bachelor of Music from Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Master of Music from the University of North Texas, and Artist Diploma from Southern Methodist University.
I am a full-time teacher now and have more than 60 students in my private music studio.
Besides teaching, I also believe my job as a professional musician is to share good music and to bring joy and love to audiences, so I gathered all my best musician friends who share the same idea with me and started the Dallas Asian Strings.
Please tell us about your art.
My group, the Dallas Asian Strings, consist of musicians who were trained at the top College of Music and are very skilled performers. We enjoy applying our skills and working collaboratively to provide excellent music service.
The most special thing about us, is we all grow up in an Asian family background, though some are Koreans, some are Chinese, but we all inherit some good features and advantages, such as well-disciplined and efficient.
Not only we can fluently speak and write two or more languages, but also our variety of music style. We are able to play and help our clients the find the best music for both Asian traditional and Western-style events.
We have an extensive repertoire and are also happy to take requests from our clients for their special day. We love playing the classics but we have had some fun putting together some great arrangements of modern music too. Dallas Asian Strings can be booked from the size of 2 and up to 8 musicians, such as a Duo (for small Chapel Ceremony), a Trio (Popular for small to medium size wedding venue), a Quartet (Great for all sizes events and weddings) and an Octet (provides a full sound for grand events).
As an artist, how do you define success and what quality or characteristic do you feel is essential to success as an artist?
The very beginning mind itself is the most accomplished mind of true enlightenment.
