Today we’d like to introduce you to Josh Sheppard.
Josh, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Well, I grew up in Mississippi in a single-parent home when I was little my mom cooked daily and I was always sneaking in & out of the kitchen taste testing and watching her so I always knew how to cook for myself. The last couple of years I always had cookouts and kickbacks at my house and I was always on the grill or in the kitchen cooking and Everyone always loved and commented highly on the food, recently I took a plate of my special sauce “yea da yea” wings to a friend at work and they got shared with coworkers, they loved it and asked do I sell plates and I said “well I can” lol & the light bulb kicked on and I launched my IG business page @Trap_Chef_ and it grew rapidly and people showed loved immediately all the way from Mississippi to Dallas! I don’t use any grease just grill or air fryer!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
To my surprise, it took off like a rocket as soon as a couple of people started reposting the food more and more started coming. I did get a little overwhelmed a couple of weeks into it because I had a lot of people wanting to order but I only had one piece of equipment to cook with so I invested I myself & went bought more then I doubled the speed of the output!
Please tell us about your business.
My business is a small black-owned comfort food business that I started right here in my kitchen! I’m a ex-banker that’s been working in and out of the oilfield also just a young man trying to work hard now so I can play later in life. I specialize in marketing, communication and cooking! I’m known for being the laid back guy that kind of just make my plays behind the scenes but also straight forward guy that’s all about business and growth! I’m so proud of the direction the company is going on to say it’s just a one-man band at the moment and it only started a couple of months ago with over a thousand IG followers! The thing that sets my food apart it’s every plate is made with love and soul grease isn’t allowed in my kitchen!
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory would probably be going to six flags nobody really went to those type of places where I’m from. We had a lot of fun that day I was the happiest kid.
