Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Taylor.
Joshua, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve been singing since I was two years old let my mama tell it. My father was a singer and my mother played the flute, so music chose me from the start. I then went on to singing in school choirs and started my first group in junior high school called Floe’. Our choir teacher gave us an opportunity to sing in front of the whole school and I knew at that moment I wanted to be a performer the rest of my life.
After high school, I ended up going to the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. While there, I studied Music Business and interned at Universal Records for MCA and Def Jam. It was during this time I realized I still wanted to perform and become an amazing entertainer and entrepreneur. I performed all throughout the east coast and became one of New England’s most popular independent artists. Before leaving the Boston area, Guitar Center’s magazine, Music Connection, deemed me as one of the nation’s top unsigned artists.
I then moved back to Texas and quickly got recognized throughout the state and Louisiana. Soon after, I was spotted online by a producer in England and we began making records together online. Word got around London about us fast and then we got offered a record deal by the world renown BBE Music. I recorded all my vocals in Dallas for the album and I’m now putting a band together in the Dallas area with some of the finest musicians in the DFW.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Nothing great comes easy. The music industry is not for the weak minded by no means. Even before I became professional, as a child, other kids and coaches would taunt me about my love to sing. They often said it wasn’t manly like and I should focus on football instead. It just made me want it more. As I got deeper into my career, it was all about constantly trying to find money to keep my bands afloat and still pay the bills. Recording, merchandising, and promoting your music isn’t cheap. I often had to move as fast as the money allowed versus how fast my mind moved to create. I’m sure that’s a struggle for many artists.
We’d love to hear more about your music.
JTronius represents a certain style of music and an overall lifestyle. Throughout the years I have created my own sound along with strong imagery and a way of life to match. With a god given unique physical presence and wide musical range, I am able to stand out amongst my peers and bring the best out of other artists I believe in. At this point, I’m well aware of what I am to the music industry and what I bring to the table to change the game.
What were you like growing up?
I was always outgoing and enjoyed living life to the fullest. Music has always been my main love but I also enjoyed sports, camping, and many other things. I was raised in a household where color didn’t matter and content of character was always key. To at least try something before I said I didn’t like it and to always know that the world is in my hands. I still hold to these principles today.
