Today we’d like to introduce you to Julian Johnson.
Julian, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Two summers ago while living in Irving, I heard of this artsy and dope vibe event call HIPHOPBOOKCLUB. I decided to do sketch something related to the topic for that night (Kendrick Lamar DAMN album) and bring it to the event. I get there to my surprise to see the main artist that’s apart of the team had his paintings up and I froze because I only had a sketch to his painting. I talked to the artist after the show and he told me to take a leap and try out painting… I watch other artists do the same years prior to me but I was nervous until one day I went to this local art store (Asel art) and just spent a lot of money on art supplies and did a painting of my favorite artist Big K.R.I.T. When he came to bomb factory… the feedback motivated me to do more paintings and eventually landed a spot at show at a summer event where I did my first live painting… that event led to so many more opportunities that I’m beyond grateful for. It came to a point where I was a vendor with the same guy that told me to take a leap in the paint world… I’ll never forget those who gave me the chance and I will continue to improve on my work
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s smooth when there is money involved but the struggle is deciding which art event to be at or what image to paint. Artist block is a thing and I’m learning how to come out of, it’s a lot easier and quicker… but definitely money, an artist block.
Please tell us about Roi Créatif Art – what should we know?
It’s an art business where I like to freely create using little to non-references. I’m known for my creativity and I’m proud of my progress and growth throughout the journey as an artist…
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Being genuine and always strive to improve never settle or be stagnant.
