Meet Jun Wan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jun Wan.

Hi Jun, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My videographer journey started in 2017 as a video editor, and I slowly learned things about some basic camera knowledge through the projects from video editing. In 2020, I decided to pull the trigger on getting all camera gears to start shooting video projects. For sure it was tough at the beginning that you need to build your portfolio and gain the trust of the clients.

My reputation as a videographer started to build up by the time, I shot a couple of good quality videos for my friends and local businesses, and I started to work on projects at local and international levels. In the DFW area, I created some commercials and social media content for some restaurants and local businesses, such as Kuma Ramen, a few Kung fu Tea locations, and fashion brand Valerie Garmino. Also, I traveled throughout the states to shoot commercials for brands like Sumarpo, and HJM bike. It was a dream come true to me that I can live up to my passion, it is worth all the hustles I made as a videographer.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not a smooth road, as a videographer, sometimes it takes balls to buy the necessary equipment to create certain looks and video quality. The equipment often costs thousands of dollars to purchase, which means it is a high chance you need to make an installment plan to buy them, imagine you have 10-20k dollar loans on your shoulder on top of your regular living expenses, like mortgage and car payment.

Then every project (for every videographer/photographer) is a challenge itself. Often, we shoot in an environment we are not familiar with, and it takes a lot of instant decisions on how to create the aesthetic shots.

Back pain and arm pain after holding a 10-30lbs camera setup for a couple of hours is also no joke.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a commercial videographer, specializing in making cinematic videos and social media content. Check my portfolio at www.hxvp.studio

One ability that set me apart is my ability to ride on an electric scooter for about 15mph, chasing behind a bike/car, and be able to pull out good quality footage.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Just don’t be afraid of talking to people, always introduce yourself and what is your profession whenever you meet new people. Make a website/social media page and post your professional side, people will start following you and talking to you about what you do and future collaboration.
