Meet Justin Doherty

Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin Doherty.

Justin, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I got started with photo//film from my church Shoreline City. I had just bought a cheap camera on Amazon Prime Day after watching far too many YouTubers telling amazing stories with their cameras. A friend noticed my first few photos posted on Instagram (and they were bad lol) They asked me to join the photo film team. It was all gas from that point, I was awful, but they let me keep snapping photos and videos. I’d learn a new trendy camera technique on YouTube and they’d let me try it out.

It was amazing to be in a place where so many professional and talented photographers were around. They taught me my camera settings, how to light faces but most importantly I learned to tell the untold stories of so many incredible people in my community! I’m forever grateful someone asked me to do something new. It began an entirely new career//passion for me. If you are ever around Garland Road with a camera, they’ll ask you too. Say YES to more new things, you never know where it may take you!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Not exactly… I think every person that tries a new business experience the ” growing pains “. I remember countless nights falling asleep to the sound of camera tutorials, hitting the delete button more times than not, saving money for a piece of camera gear that was supposed to “change everything”, or gaining the courage to ask for feedback and letting hone my craft. You hear NO a lot in the early part of the journey and you make a LOT of mistakes.

I’m glad it stuck with it this long, and I’m thankful for every person//business that gave me a chance to tell their stories. My creative journey is paved with the stones of their wedding videos, commercials, photo-shoots, social media, etc. My advice to anyone walking the same road is to find some deep gratitude in every opportunity you get!

We’d love to hear more about your work.
Myself and a few other allied forces create digital products. We take photos, we tell stories through video, we make websites, social media and develop marketing campaigns to help display the value of every client or individual we meet. I’m most proud when people feel like they meet a friend during that process when the story or the product is elevated and a great new relationship is formed as a by-product.
