Meet Justin Malone of Malone Pictures

Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin Malone.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My next door neighbor, Timothy Schmidt had a small video camera when we were kids. At 11 years old, Tim was already on his way to becoming a great filmmaker, while the other kids and I were fortunate enough just to ride his coat tails. One day, we were filming a battle scene for Tims “Untitled” Vietnam picture and my job was special effects pyro-technician. I desperately wanted to impress Tim and was determined to make our backyard movie as close to “Apocalypse Now” as possible. So, I threw the entire gas can into the flames. Tim was in the moment and pushing in for a close up right as the fire exploded. My entire backyard caught on fire and the neighborhood boom-op lost his leg, but the biggest tragedy of them all was Tim experiencing third-degree burns on his face and loss of his eyesight. I prayed several rosaries and volunteered to serve extra mass in my altar boy duties to ease my guilt. In the meantime, I found out my mom was really my grandma and my aunt Rene was really my mom, but that’s another story.

Three weeks later, Tim was able to return home. He asked me how the shot turned out and we started laughing. I told him it was fucking awesome. After a while, he made me promise that I would finish the picture. I did. And that’s when I discovered my passion for directing.

That film which ended up being called “The Long night of Kein Long” was a hit in the neighborhood. Tim used to love to just listen to that movie over and over again. In fact, we lugged that VHS around with us everywhere. One day my mentally challenged friend Paul accidentally spilled OJ on it. Paul is a plumber now and does very well for himself.

That fire mishap was the best thing that ever happened to me and the reason I’m where I am today: A DFW Metroplex Videographer (with very fair prices) specializing in bar mitzvahs, lawyer depositions, weddings, birthday parties, team building events, and softball high school recruiting videos. Passion projects TBD.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, I’ve actually been very blessed to have a simple, stress-free life.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
My dinner parties. I’m a very gifted chef. I’d say my top two dishes are my lasagna and my pho (it’s all about the soup bones). The only downside to cooking is the fact that I don’t have enough seating for everyone in my advertising family. I work in an industry filled with so much integrity and good-will, I find myself with an abundance of friends. I guess to add to your previous question, the bump in the road is not having enough hours in the day to spend with all the wonderful people that work in my industry.

What were you like growing up?
I was hilarious. Had lots of friends and was very talented. I was borderline white trash but made a couple of right moves and now I’m balling out of control.
