Meet Juwan Johnson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Juwan Johnson.

Hi Juwan, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My Name is Juwan Johnson. I Am from Chicago, IL. I Own a Skate/Streetwear Brand Called BRKN YOUTH. I’ve been making & designing clothes since I was 11. After money problems stopped my college football career, I decided to focus on making clothes. I would draw on my clothes when I was younger to make them different and stand out. My mom uses to always tell me to start my own clothing brand and sell the clothes I make. Then in 2018, I started printing my own clothes with my branding. I then started giving out my clothes to friends and family. I have a passion for skateboarding and the skate community. I try to help the kids I see skating around me, giving them clothing for tricks and it makes them happy. I do it for the youth. I started my Instagram and website which are @brknyouth_ and www.brknyouth.com in 2020. I started getting more attraction to my clothing and what I try to do for the community. I first started making my clothes by hand and now I get my clothing manufactured. It’s taken almost a year to change my life. The brand has grown followers and more support. I plan to have my brand as a platform that grows, so more of the community can see. My dream is to make and design clothes for a living.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some of the struggles I have gone through, are minimum support and trying to make a brand from the very beginning with nothing. Trying to build my following and get to others that understand my vision. Starting out is more harder without exposure for people to buy my clothing. I have had to figure out ways to make my clothing in the beginning with little to no money. Trying to get my clothes manufactured, I have had to gone through manufacturers that were not legit and have tried to scam me. I’ve had to gone through my website being put on lock from people paying with fraudulent cards and basically stealing from me.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in custom graphics and custom clothing. I am most proud of what I have become and the growth in my brand. What sets me apart from others is that I do more than just clothes. I try to help the community with my clothing by giving back to the community and kids in need by giving them my clothes, which some are not able to buy.

What was you like growing up?
Growing up I was always different from other kids. I had a creative side that made weird to everyone else because I stood out differently. I was the Quirky, Weird Class Clown always trying to make people laugh or smile. My Interests Growing up were Clothes from big brands Like BAPE or Billionaire Boys Club, Pharrell Williams Is a big inspiration of mine. I was also very into sports and art.
