Meet Kathy Kiger

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathy Kiger.

Kathy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I never dreamed I would become an entrepreneur as a single mom. Actually, I never dreamed I’d become a single mom. I was a stay-at-home, homeschooling mom to four kids under 10. I didn’t expect my marriage to end. But it did.

Raising and supporting four kids on my own seemed impossible. But as my mom says, “you just do what you have to.” So I picked myself up and figured out how to support my family.

I decided it was time to quit homeschooling, send my kids to school, and get a job. And when I set my mind to something, there is no stopping me. In March, I decided to get a teaching certification. By August of that same year, I started my new career. I taught for several years. And I liked it okay. I liked the steady paycheck (even though, as a teacher it wasn’t much).

But I knew I wanted to do more. As a lifelong dieter, I had become a self-proclaimed expert on food and nutrition. I spent my free time reading nutrition blogs and listening to podcasts. I had learned how to let go of dieting and nourish my body with real food. Could I somehow earn a living in the nutrition space?

So I went back to school at the Nutritional Therapy Association and became a Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner (FNTP). While I was working my way through school, I fell in love with learning, research, and writing.

Now I am able to combine my passions and make a difference. I do the work that wellness practitioners don’t have time for. I create content for wellness professionals so they can spend their time where it counts: with their clients!

I write website content that helps establish authority and draw in ideal clients. I create blogs that provide valuable content and get noticed by Google. And I write email newsletters that help practitioners captivate and convert their readers into paying customers. Writing content and developing marketing strategies for wellness professionals is the most fulfilling work I’ve ever done.

Has it been a smooth road?
Of course there have been bumps in the road. I used to be a married, homeschooling mom of four. Suddenly realizing that I was going to have to not only raise, but also financially support my four kids all on my own was terrifying. But it’s often life’s greatest challenges that inspire the most personal growth. I like who I have become. And I know I wouldn’t have come this far without going through that trial.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I work as a freelance copywriter for the health and wellness industry. I help wellness practitioners with their content marketing and online presence so they can focus their time on their clients. I know a lot of nutritional therapists. I’ve seen so many of them struggle, trying to get their businesses to take off.

So now I write website copy, blog posts, and emails that help nutritionists and other wellness professionals develop their online presence so their ideal clients can find them. I help them build their reputations and expand their client base while saving them time.

I only take on clients whose vision aligns with my own. And I’m proud to work with people I admire. I love cheering on my clients and seeing their businesses grow. I get to help people realize their dreams of making a difference!

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I dream of a world where people look to holistic health – nutrition and lifestyle – to live a life where they can thrive. And I see our culture moving in that direction. More people are looking at natural approaches to health and wellness while they feel good, rather than waiting until they are in a health crisis.

Our world has changed dramatically with COVID-19. More wellness practitioners are moving their businesses online. So those of us who work in online marketing are in demand.
