Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Lane.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Katie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was drawing vehemently before I started grade school. But it wasn’t until 4th grade, when my watercolor painting was chosen to be displayed at a local store that my joy for being creative grew into a lifelong dream. Luckily my mother, who still has every painting I’ve ever created hanging in her home, always encouraged me to pursue my passion.
Fast-forward to my adult years, where I attended college for graphic design. Not knowing where this would lead me, a friend asked me to design her wedding invitations. I loved the entire process. This ultimately led me to start an Etsy shop of digital invites when I was looking for a job after having my first baby.
My first years on Etsy were great and taught me so much about being a solopreneur. From here I grew my business from a little online shop to a known local company within the wedding industry with a small team of women, an office in Addison and a semi-custom stationery line.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t always been smooth sailing. I started on Etsy more than 6 years ago, when the market was in high demand for digital invitations.
The Invitation category became over-saturated, and this was when I decided to switch my focus to working with local clients.
This struggle was a blessing in disguise, as it immersed me in an amazing community of wedding professionals that has grown my business and friendships leaps and bounds.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about LaneLove Paper Co. – what should we know?
LaneLove Paper Co. is a wedding stationery company. We specialize in custom wedding invitations and wedding day branding. I am the owner and creative director/designer- working with each client directly throughout the entire process.
My design style is what I like to call “modern polished”- a mix of classic + sophisticated style with a minimalist aesthetic. We offer digital flat printing, foiling, and in-house letterpress printing. Yes me- a 4’11” girl working a three thousand pound 1950’s Letterpress machine!
Our latest accomplishments include the release of our first ever semi-custom line consisting of our most loved custom designs from our past Brides!
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I believe my attention to detail is one of my most essential qualities in every part of my business- from the design, communication throughout, and the printing/production of my product.
