Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Romo.
Katie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started Diary of a Dallas Girl in 2015 as an online diary of my chronicles. It started as sort of a Dallas blog and then turned in to a weight loss blog, and now has evolved back into a blog about Dallas lifestyle and health and wellness, not only physical health but mental health. As a nurse, I believe that not only mental but physical health is extremely important to everyone, especially women. So many women struggle with mental health and confidence issues, my goal is to let them know that they are not alone, and they are worthy no matter what they think.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has not ever been a smooth road, but it has been fun. I have had several struggles that have been anything from mental health struggles that have caused me to want to withdraw and not post anything to my blog, to just general life that has caused me to reevaluate the direction my blog has taken. I have struggled with finding my niche and finding the direction that I wanted to go with my blog, but overall, I have enjoyed sharing my life.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Diary of a Dallas Girl story. Tell us more about it.
Diary of a Dallas Girl is a blog for 30 something women who are real women. Real women with real life problems, and struggles. Real women who do not fit into the perfect size two influencer window. There are plenty of women who struggle with daily life, and they see plenty of women on social media that believe that they have to be 100% perfect. I set out to be completely transparent with my readers so that they know that they are not alone in anything they might be struggling with. I also aim to encourage and uplift women, by making them feel like they are important because they truly are.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see influencers/blogs to be one of the biggest industries over the next 5-10 years. I feel like with social media evolving it will only create more opportunities for more people, to become bloggers and influencers. I believe that more people who are “microbloggers” who don’t have 30,000 followers will have more of an impact than those who have a huge amount of followers.
