Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Roznosky.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
One of my fondest memories as a kid was going to local festivals in the Spring and Summer with my family. It was a tradition that I carried on with my own kids. In the Spring of 2018, I took my then 2-year-old daughter to a large festival and was disappointed in the art activities being offered for kids or lack there off. Following that event, I started researching art activities for toddlers, specifically painting activities, and all I could really find were studios that centered around cocktails. Some studios offered child classes, but typically, the kid had to be at least eight years old. There was a clear gap as there really weren’t any painting options in my area for toddlers and there weren’t any options for a painting activity that would allow my daughter just to have fun, get messy and be creative. I wanted to create a fun and unique experience for my daughter, so I started doing a lot of research on art expression and painting parties. I just loved the idea of allowing kids the freedom to have fun while making a beautiful mess. I created Pint-sized Pollocks to make that idea a reality.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Taking Pint-Sized Pollocks from just an idea into an actual business has not been easy. I did my first event on July 4th, 2018, which was just two months after developing the concept. The event was not well executed, to say the least. I only did one other event in 2018 and still had a lot of kinks to work out. At the beginning of 2019, I decided that if I wanted to build up Pint-sized Pollocks, I needed to get noticed. I started putting in applications for the festival and was accepted as a vendor for the three festivals I applied to. I was very excited! I quickly learned that you must be prepared for anything as a vendor at festivals; crazy weather, event closures, processes changes, even vehicle trouble. Through all the struggles of the first few events, I am thankful for the experience and the great connections I made. It has been a ton of fun.
Please tell us about Pint-Sized Pollocks – what should we know?
The painting “technique” and name for Pint-sized Pollocks is inspired by the expressionist American painter, Jackson Pollock. Pint-sized Pollocks creates a unique experience that inspires our guests to just paint, not think, and have fun. We are a mobile splatter painting event and party service. We transform a 10×20 tent into a fully functional art studio with all the necessary supplies to create a Pollock inspired masterpiece. The “war room” is a separated space within the tent that is stocked with weapons of creativity for guests to splatter each other while wearing the logo t-shirt.
What sets me apart from others is that Pint-sized Pollocks is not your typical painting party. Guests will make a beautiful mess while flicking and flinging paint at a canvas or each other. They get a unique and fun experience and I do all the cleanup. Does it get any better than that?
Who else deserves credit – have you had mentors, supporters, cheerleaders, advocates, clients or teammates that have played a big role in your success or the success of the business? If so – who are they and what role did they plan / how did they help.
My family has been beyond supportive and has been my biggest cheerleader from the start. From the many design changes to building my social media presence, they have been there every step of the way. I also want to give a special thanks to my dad, Tony Roznosky. He has been my sounding board to bounce ideas off and my rock when I’ve felt overwhelmed. Without his continued support through the highs and the lows, I may have given up.
Jackie Pierce at Big Frog Custom T-Shirts & More in Fort Worth, TX has also played a big role in the success of Pint-sized Pollocks. I wanted to find a way to capitalize on the exposure of being a vendor at the festivals that I had been accepted to and create some brand recognition. What better way than to have guests walking around in logo t-shirts that they just splatter painted. Jackie and her team were instrumental in helping to create the logo t-shirts and they have been a huge hit.
