Meet Kendall Kelley of Kreative Designs in Carrollton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kendall Kelley.

Kendall, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve had several career changes in my short life span; retail, military, EMS, and now cosmetology. I got to where I am after overcoming many obstacles, health setbacks, and unwavering support from friends and loved ones. I love working with hair and makeup; blowouts, styling, and updo’s are my favorite areas.

I have less than 300 hours left of school before I graduate. I hope to work at the Dry Bar salon when I finish school. And after building up clientele over the course of several years, I would love to work for myself as an independent, traveling stylist for special events. Weddings, quinceñeras, homecomings, proms, any kind of special event that requires more than just your average everyday hair and makeup.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I was involved in a head-on collision three months into my cosmetology program. Since then, I’ve had multiple issues and times where I was sent back to the hospital for residual issues from the wreck. I started in a wheelchair and now I’m walking almost completely normal again, so I’d say I’ve come pretty far in the last almost 10 months. I couldn’t have done it without the help and support of the amazing friends I’ve made in school. And the administration has been very accommodating to my needs so that I can finish the program.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memories would be any of the summers I spent with my mom. My parents divorced when I was about 4, and my father had majority custody. My mom lives in California so it was always so much fun to get to see her the 1-2 times a year that we were able to. She made sure we always had plenty of adventures, from road trips all over Texas, through the states to California, and up the west coast. She definitely gave us some of the best summers of our lives (for my brothers and I).
