Meet Kerri Sterin of House of Kerri in McKinney

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kerri Sterin.

Kerri, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
For many years I worked with stained glass; install pieces, tables, and functional art. I secretly wanted to make jewelry, but didn’t know which direction to go with it. At one point I had oxidized a frame for a piece that I was working on and loved it. I started working more oxidized metal into my work and made myself a pair of earrings from some scrap oxidized copper. I loved them and everyone wanted a pair. I just needed to build up the nerve to do it as a business.

After a few health issues and an extended stay in the hospital I had my ah-ha moment and decided I would spend the rest of my time here doing things that I can be passionate about! I started House of Kerri as soon as I was up to it.

Oxidized metals were the beginning of this venture and are still my passion, but over time I added bead work and stones. I love loads of texture, color, and layers!

I never would have expected to have such a wonderful following, but I am thrilled to ride this wave as long as I can!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I wouldn’t say smooth, but not terribly rocky either. Every one of my many, many failures created the path that I am on today. The failures and successes created the evolution of my work and display. Those areas will always continue to grow and change, but a lot of the kinks have been worked out!

My current struggle is wrapping my head around moving forward with online business and possibly doing some retail. Although those two directions are the way of the world, it takes away the time I get to spend with customers personalizing their pieces.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
House of Kerri is a traveling jewelry boutique that is dedicated to offering quality, unique jewelry through a line of oxidized metals and stone. This bohemian collection has a whimsical vintage flair that is always changing. There are a few main stays but many pieces change out regularly.

People walk into my booth and are excited to mix it up! They will be fitted there so each piece is uniquely their own. I hope they leave with something playful that makes them feel beautiful and puts a smile on their face every time they put it on!

What were you like growing up?
I stayed very busy growing up! Playing and coaching soccer was my passion, but I loved many other sports along the way. I worked a lot, any odd job with hopes to save enough to travel and see the world. Art was were my heart was but I wasn’t confidant enough that I would be able to make a living doing it so I had big plans to become a lawyer. Thankfully life had different plans for me!

Pricing:
