Today we’d like to introduce you to Kerrington Smith.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Kerrington. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
When I was about 13 years old, I joined a baseball camp and for whatever reason, we never played baseball! They ran us all over the metroplex and we never touched a single baseball. Luckily for me, they did take us to the fox sports television network. That trip opened up a door of possibilities. Although I wasn’t immediately struck by the production aspects. I did gain an interest in acting and entertaining. I joined many of their groups and clubs. One day a classmate recommended that I make a YouTube channel. Hesitant at first, I eventually did, and honestly found it to be almost therapeutic. Now aged around 15 and attending Texas Academy of Biomedical Sciences I was trying to balance rigorous medical course work all while tending to my true-life passion. I got my first job at CiCi’s pizza. Being true to kerrington I had to do my job at 110% no matter what. I worked, and worked and saved money to buy new editing equipment, and cameras in hopes of bettering my original content. Once I felt ready I began marketing my services to local business owners and I will say I was quite a busy 16 years old. All that work paid off when I was offered a marketing management position at the age of 17 in Dallas by a lighting manufacturer. With the compensation offered there, I could afford my first car, & more equipment. Not to say it wasn’t stressful I was managing an international team of talent, all while still attending Texas Academy of Biomedical Sciences College & Highschool classes. Finally, after a year of hard work I went my separate ways and opened up kerrykel productions, this allowed me to be my own boss and clear up my schedule for friends, family, and my original passion acting.
Has it been a smooth road?
There were definitely struggles, mainly being at a school that focused on biomedical science. I almost always felt different. Not to say science is not interesting I definitely love science but I wasn’t reaching my full potential there and often times didn’t care about the course work as I knew it has nothing to do with entertainment, video production or my passion. Luckily, I had some truly amazing high school friends (Madeline, Laura, Rio, etc.) That were able to help me produce content at school. This kept me from having many meltdowns.
So, let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Kerrykel Productions story. Tell us more about the business.
Kerrykel Productions provides video production services all throughout the state of Texas. We record just about anything but our relationships with our business clients are what were known for. Fundamentally our company is structured differently it allows us to operate with low overhead with that equals better value to our clients. Whereas x company may charge 20k for an ad for web or tv we can come in reassess the client’s needs and do it for around 10-15k for the same exact quality, with a faster turnaround. I’m proud when we work with so many great companies and organizations that are truly making a difference makes me feel like we are a part of their story as well.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see us getting more corporate clients as we transform into a creative media production company. I want to start producing tv shows that I’ve written. We have slowly integrated this concept with my new cooking series titled Cooking it up with Kerrington Smith.
