Meet Kevin Toy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Toy.

Kevin, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Well, I got my first taste of modeling during middle school. My dad took me to a photoshoot and then when I found something that I liked. I liked getting in front of a lens, dressing up and doing all these different kinds of poses. However, coming from an immigrant family, I couldn’t focus on it much. I had to focus on school most of the time. Fast forward to junior year in high school.

This time I had my first taste in acting. I was in a school play named ” the triangle” and being part of it made me realize what I really enjoyed doing. I realized that acting was my passion and what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. college didn’t really interested me. Throughout my four years of college, I started doing modeling gigs and short Films. I did this Short film/music video called “crimson”. It was one of the biggest production company I’ve worked with. I remember walking into the set ready. The lights, camera, the whole environment made me feel motivated to do my best. Working on “crimson”  definitely made me realize that Acting was IT for me. I would miss out classes to do these projects and realized that this was it for me. I graduated UNT in may of 2019 and have been focusing on my career as an actor ever since.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it definitely has not been a smooth road. In this business, you have to work hard and make smart moves. You have to always be improving your craft by taking acting classes and networking with people. A typical week for me would be filled with 2-3 auditions and some acting classes. You have to be very patient to get that big break that jumpstarts your career in Hollywood. Its a marathon, not a sprint.

Please tell us more about your work. What do you do? What do you specialize in? What sets you apart from competition?
My skills as an artist to tell stories and move people emotionally. The goal is make the audiences feel a variety of emotions. By the time they’re done watching my performance, they should entertained in some way, and that’s what I’m currently  specializing  in. What sets me apart from others is that nobody is me. It’s  as simple as that. I don’t have a safety net. I don’t have a plan B. I’m  pushing  myself into a corner where I have no choice but to make it.  I will make it.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Some of my favorite memories from childhood would be spending time playing outside with my friends and watching cartoons and movies with my family. As a child, I always loved being outside and playing in the neighborhood with my friends. We would always bike around the entire neighborhood, going to each others houses and just have a total blast. Now, I love traveling and there’s a whole world out there to see but,  I guess when you’re child, your neighborhood was your traveling world.

Watching movies and cartoons was my escape from reality. It made me so creative and I guess seeing a variety of stories made me happy. I would get soo into the story and the characters sometimes.
