Today, we’d like to introduce you to Kima Canvases. Kima was introduced to us by the brilliant and talented Ayanna Jones.
Hi Kima , we’re so thrilled to have you sharing your story with us today. Maybe we can kick things off by having you introduce yourself to our readers? We’d love to have you go into your story and how you got to where you are today.
I first began creative and performing arts as a young girl. I grew up being mentored by professionals for painting and crafts as well as theater arts through The Dallas Black Academy of Arts & Letters, as well as other performing art programs in Dallas.
I decided to pursue art my sophomore year at Baylor after realizing that I no longer wanted to be a doctor and could not live without being a creative. It was at this time I also found a love for non-profit work and spent the next few years producing shows and events in both non-profit, and for-profit environments.
I started doing my own art for fun and it would sell at shows and I called it nkimascanvas.com and with that as well as professionals asking me to produce visuals for them, I grew into what I have today.
I launched Queendom Arts Production in December 2017 and now have an art studio and event space, that I live and work in, here near downtown Dallas.
We specialize in art and entertainment at a social and professional level. We aim to spread love through visuals, music, and food! In a cruel world with so many uncertainties, you can rest assured knowing The Queen is bringing the good vibes.
Please talk to us about your music.
I always tell people it’s hard for me to talk about music as an intensity outside of myself, because I am music. I am a song bird manifest in love. I love love more than anything and my heart always longs for peace. I put all of these feelings, including the unhappy ones, into my art. I don’t put out a lot of songs because I prefer live shows. I do have a few songs on all platforms that can be found by looking for “QUEEN KIMA” and I drop exclusive songs to subscribers on my website as well as do at least one exclusive show a month. Best part is it’s just five bucks a month.
So, as we mentioned to our audience earlier, you were introduced to us by Ayanna Jones and we really admire them and what they’ve built. For folks who might not be as familiar, can you tell them a bit about your experience with Ayanna.
I first met Ayanna at a FUBUPALOOZA event back in 2018 or 2019 I can’t recall exactly. What I do recall is that after the first time I had her food I knew I needed to have it again… and again!
When I first moved back to Texas I was fully vegan and, at that time, the vegan food options were far few and in between or at least I didn’t know about them. This made my first encounter with AJ even better. I’ll never forget the vegan street fries I had that very first time. The best part is she cooks everything and it’s all clean and safe. My mom has a sensitive digestive system and even she loves AJ’s food and is always excited for the opportunity to dine with her.
Another great thing about Ayanna is that, in addition to all her successes, she strives to maintain a humble heart that is alway giving back to her community. Even with me first starting out, new to my own hometown, trying to figure out my next move, Aj was always there and ready to show love and support by making sure I had food whether I had money or not. Or even times when she knew I was growing and trying to get to the next level, she wouldn’t take my money.
Ayanna is a beautiful woman inside and out with a heart of gold and big goals. It would take a ton for someone to even try to fill her shoes.
