Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly and Casey Morris.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Scrub Soaps etc. is our home-based health and wellness company. My husband and I started this business back in March of 2020, soon after the quarantine began, making hand sanitizers with the CDC recommended alcohol content. While trying to come up with an effective recipe for hand sanitizers, I did some research on other DIY bath and body products. As the months went on, my line of products increased to include: soaps, bath bombs, hand sanitizers, body butters, body scrubs, bath soaks, salves for hands and feet, beard oils, CBD salves, soothing bug bite Aloe Vera gel, whipped soaps, and shower steamers.
Our goal is to enhance the quality of life by meeting people’s needs through creating chemical-free natural products that provide safe and healthy alternatives for personal body care. All of our products are homemade with natural and organic ingredients. In the beginning, we mostly sold through Etsy due to the pandemic, but as things began to open back up, we started selling at local Farmer’s markets in Hartland and Frisco. After months of building our brand and product line, we have decided to sell on Saturdays primarily and we plan on being at the Dallas Farmer’s market year round. Our product line stays the same; however, we create seasonal items with ingredients and aromas that reflect the season.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I’ve been a nurse and respiratory therapist for over ten years and if my experience has taught me anything, it’s that you always have to be prepared and use your time wisely. The lockdowns made it really hard for us to get our products into the hands of potential customers. I can do my best to describe a scent or the feel of one of our products, but it’s not like having the actual product in your hands. So we made sure to be the best online service we could be. When a customer places an order, I make sure it goes out as soon as possible, just like Amazon. We even started a mailing list called the Scrub Club. We use it to share sales and new products with our customers. Since the lockdowns have been lifted and some restrictions have been removed, we have been able to sell in person. The folks at the Dallas Farmer’s Market have been really great and always stop by to tell us how much they like our shop.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Scrub Soaps – what should we know?
Scrub Soaps etc. is a health and wellness company. Our goal is to enhance the quality of life by meeting people’s needs through creating wholesome, homemade products that provide safe and healthy alternatives for personal body care. We are very proud of our work and attention to detail. We have created a business that creates products that people enjoy. It’s great seeing families come by our shop and safely smell and sample our body butters, scrubs, bath bombs and soaps. Most of our products are homemade with natural and organic ingredients. I tell our customers that you can eat some of the products we make, but you shouldn’t. lol
We’re known for our shower steamers. Shower steamers are packed full of essential oils or fragrances designed to create the ultimate at-home spa experience in your shower. You place the shower steamer on the floor of your shower, out of the direct flow of water but in a location where the water will meet it. As the water and steam melt the steamer, the scent is released into the air and carried around your bathroom. Customers love this product and we always sell out of them.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My husband and I are Liberian so we’re fortunate to have friends and family from the local community supporting us. Our first days at the Dallas Farmer’s Market were incredible and we had so many people we love to come visit and shop with us. It was something I’ll never forget. Our customers have been great. I love reading their reviews and hearing about their experiences using our products. I especially want to thank Brooke Fitzpatrick, the Founder of Mosaic Matchmaking, who nominated us to be featured in Voyage Dallas. She and her husband Jared have been really supportive during this journey.
