Meet Kody Davis of The Kandi Factory in Lancaster

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kody Davis.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
When I was younger, my idol was Lil Kim and my dream was becoming a stripper. Of course, my parents didn’t entertain my dream but me, him and my sister would always make up dance routines and learn all the latest dances. I would always sneak my mother’s heels and go practice by myself acting as if I’m on stage. My last year in Middle school came and I finally got the chance to be in dance class, you could tell me absolutely nothing. It was my first year and I was helping with choreography and dancing with the big dogs (other middle school students that had the class for two years). Freshman year, I tried out for my school drill team and got denied. I had never been told no in life before. It inspired me to join a dance class so I could improve my technique and go back and get what I wanted. All my instructors throughout High-school inspired me and made my passion for dance grow. After graduation, I decided to revise my childhood dream and become a heels instructor. In March 2018, I introduced the Kandi Factory to the world. In September 2018, I took a break, I had my beautiful blessing of a daughter in June 2019 and now I’m back and better than ever. Ready to see what 2020 has to offer!

Has it been a smooth road?
My pregnancy was the biggest struggle. I had to go so long without doing what I love. I tried to stay active but my pregnancy really had its way with me, mentally and physically.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into The Kandi Factory story. Tell us more about the business.
The Kandi Factory is a company that focuses on building confidence in diverse individuals through dance. We teach that there is more than just movement with dance, it’s 90% mental and 10% physical. We provide respect, variety, a challenge, and most importantly a fun environment. I’m proud that I didn’t wait until the “right time” to go after my dream. I took my $20 and made something shake.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was full of life, smart and caring. I’ve always been stubborn but ambitious and outgoing. As I stated previously, I loved to dance and put on shows. I also enjoyed mathematics, music, crafting and family tea parties. All family time honestly, especially playing dolls. Between me and my two sisters, we might’ve had 500 all kind of dolls. My parents would have to get on me because I would often get in trouble in school for fighting. To this day, my family describes me as fun, loving and loyal.
