Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristen Rodriguez.
Kristen, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
In 2013, I moved to Dallas for a career in IT after graduating from Texas A&M University. With no family or friends in Dallas, I was alone and needed a way to make new friends. Thankfully, I found a pole studio near me and the fire was ignited.
I found a new home with women and men that encouraged and supported me both inside and out of the studio. Not to mention I was getting a killer workout! I’ve never been a gym person, so this different type of workout was perfect for me. Pole challenged me physically and gave me an outlet to make friends, relieve stress and express through movement.
In 2014, I competed in my first pole competition and WON! I continued to compete with wins at each event I participated in. I started instructing pole classes shortly after my first competition and found my true passion – empowering others through movement. Over the years, I’ve worked on perfecting my art through conventions, workshops, and traveling to Korea to train with the best in the industry.
In March 2018, I took my passion to empower a step further and opened Shine Fitness Studio. Shine specializes in pole and aerial fitness, the only studio of its kind in the DFW Mid-Cities. We’ve created a community of strong individuals that continuously shine both physically and mentally.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
For years, I held a full-time role in IT and juggled being an instructor and eventually a studio owner. I was always on the go and found myself dreaming of being in the air at the studio. Finally, I took the leap and left my full-time job and fully committed to running the studio. It’s the best decision I’ve ever made! I get to wake up every morning and do what I love. I get to inspire our students and lead a group of incredible instructors.

Shine Fitness Studio specializes in pole and aerial fitness, the only studio of its kind in the DFW Mid-Cities. We’ve created a community of strong individuals that continuously shine both physically and mentally. We believe that every person has a light within; you just have to let it SHINE.
Our class offerings include pole fitness, aerial hoop, aerial hammock, strength training, and flexibility training. We offer adult and kids classes with class times throughout the entire day. Our instructors are award-winning and have years of practice and instruction experience. Our instructors dedicated time in continuously expanding their skills and education so that we can offer the best workout for our students.
We also offer private parties to celebrate birthdays, bachelorette, girls’ night out, mom’s day out, and corporate outings. Our newest offering is kid’s birthday parties for a circus-themed birthday. Celebrations include private studio time, dedicated instructor(s), choreography to let your guests shine, and pictures to show off your unforgettable experience.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
In the last year, we’ve grown from a team of 2 to a team of 9 and in April 2019 moved into a significantly larger space. With the new space, we plan to continue to expand our class offerings with added class time and apparatuses. We also have incredible workshops with world-renowned aerialist planned to keep pushing our students in their fitness journey.
