Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristo Blanc.
Kristo, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My story begins in Oklahoma City. Ever since I could remember – I’ve always had a special connection to music. Growing up, my pops had a studio room. In my home, it was encouraged to pursue creative expression. Although, my parents were adamant about me doing well in school so that I could grow up and get into a good college. I loved music class as a kid and I was a part of the school choir growing up. I also performed in the school plays and always made sure that I played a significant role in the production. I excelled early in school but I was much more interested in what was going on outside of the classroom. I began slacking off in school and quickly turned from an “A-B student” to an average one. Freshman year of high school, I decided that I wanted to pursue music in a more philosophical and significant way. With a team of artists, we started a group called “The Triad”. We had our first show when we were 14 at a local venue formerly known as, The Conservatory – (now 89th Street). A lot of regional bands and artists in Oklahoma City get their start at this venue. Being able to say that I performed there for my first live experience and hold up the tradition is an awesome thing! Eventually Triad disbanded and after high school; I found myself in a bind between going to film school or dropping my studies completely. After a semester at film school, I decided to drop out. Succeeding, I bought a home studio, copped a crib with my best friend and officially dove into my artistic pursuit. Three and a half years later, we’re still working to make those dreams a reality. Since then, I have recorded thousands of songs, worked on a television show, self-released four projects, visited 32 states, and built a name for myself in my city. I feel more prepared now than ever for anything coming our way and I’m excited for what’s in store.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road has been a long and winding one! I’ve struggled with my mental and emotional well-being. For me, I’ve always wanted to be as honest as possible with myself and my fans. The hardest part about being an artist is knowing when to trust yourself. I am a perfectionist. When you’re looking to achieve that in every song, instrument, tone, photo, video or album – it is typically an illusion. There is no definition of perfection in the artistic realm. The only validation I seek nowadays, is within. It took me some time to recognize this. Finding the confidence to expand my horizon and be comfortable in myself has been the best part of the struggle. Life is filled with ups and downs but it’s’ the moments of trauma that shape us and allow us to grow.
Please tell us about your work.
Kristo Blanc is an artist. Behind every successful artist is a team. My team just happens to be like my family. We consist of many talents and different walks of life who dominate within our respective work forces. I think the best part about our whole dynamic is that not only do we flourish together but we all prosper individually. Between Sage Wellness, BY. E, TheSweetLife, Wise, Tymless 1824, Hollis House, Bad Faith in Norman, District Impact, OKC Famers Market, VISSION and First Class – the communal impact has been incredible.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My mom and dad for everything, my lil sis, my big bro. All of the homies who pushed me to be a better artist and never let my passion die. I could go on all day + thank them all individually but they know who they are. All of the people I have encountered on this journey are the reason I’m still on the path I am. Every positive or negative entity. Even if I fell out with someone or had a disagreement with them – I don’t regret the moments we had. Life has a way of guiding people into your atmosphere in ways you’d never expect, I try and remember to value that.
