Today we’d like to introduce you to Kya Harris.
Kya, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
When I was 19 years old. I was trying to find what I necessarily wanted to do with myself! I had to find a passion and something that would keep me grounded, and it was writing. I never had an issue with writing whether it was writing a short story or just doodling anything that came to my mind! That’s when I decided to write my first book The Thoughts of Her Nights and published it through Fast Pencil. I thought that I was doing something for the fun of it and just put it to the side!
Five years later, I had to get myself back together and understood that life isn’t a joke and me still being young, I had to find a way to be successful in this world. I couldn’t do anything but think of what I knew how to do and put it to use, which was write again. May 26, 2018. I published my second book called A Woman’s Betrayal! I was proud of myself because of the hard work I put into it and I actually felt proud of myself for the first time! I didn’t think I would have as many supporters, but to receive positive feedback from people I didn’t know made me realize who I am.
Soon after August 2, 2018. I started my own company Write Me Editing and Publishing! I realized that with the talent and skills that I’m capable of when it comes to publishing, editing, and the creativity of book covers why not help other upcoming authors or other individuals that’s interested. I soon put me a team together and decided to grow my company!
In November, I decided to write a biography for a basketball player from New Mexico State University by the name of De’Kabriean Eldridge. After completing another successful book April 22, 2019, I honestly felt that nothing in this world could stop me from doing what makes me happy. I’ve been asked to write more biographies and also have another book in store coming at the end of the year, a possible play next year, and a movie within two years.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. The hardest part is staying focused. Make sure that I have the most positive people in my corner that can inspire and at the same time teach me how to be self-motivated.
