Meet LaNette Kincaide

Today we’d like to introduce you to LaNette Kincaide.

LaNette, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is LaNette Kincaide, and I was born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas. I’m the wife of a Retired Dallas Police Officer and Marine. My husband served our country for twenty years and was also a police officer for eleven years. I’m the mom of two children and a grandmother to three beautiful grandchildren. I never thought I would be a grandmother, but it happened to me.

Who am I? My environment helped shape my view of life and sparked my drive to do more for my community. I grew up first on the Southside of Fort Worth, and then our family moved to the North Side of Fort Worth,Texas. I grew up in an era of the infamous Good Luck’s Restaurant, Edmondson’s Chicken, and when drive-in movies were a thing.

As a kid, the neighborhoods where I lived were similar to those in the book “A Tale of Two Cities,” because I had the opportunity of growing up on both the South and North Side of Fort Worth. On the South Side, I remember seeing many people who looked like me and acted like me, and we shared many of the same struggles. No one really made fun of each other because we were the same. The North Side of town was the total opposite, and the struggles were definitely different. I had a hard time adjusting to a new side of town as a kid and I had kids point and talk about me in different languages. I laugh about my experiences of growing up in the hood now and I’m honestly grateful for the experience. I wouldn’t change it for the world.

One thing I learned about growing up in Fort Worth, Texas, is it wasn’t about how my life started, it was all about what I could do to make a difference with my life and hopefully impact the lives of others.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
As a business owner, you definitely hope and pray for life and business to go smoothly, but sometimes that’s not always the case.

Last year on June 2, I lost my mom. My mom died unexpectedly. When I think about my mom and her death, I sometimes smile. I smile because mom literally escaped what this nation has become-dangers and more dangers. I watch the news and I see so many senseless, violent acts and killings. In addition, our nation has a constant rising death toll of people dying from the Coronavirus and I think, “Wow, mom didn’t succumb to any of those dangers.” Then there’s the other side of me that remembers that regardless of how mom died, she’s no longer here with me and that’s where reality set it. I’m MOTHERLESS! I no longer have a mother. I allowed my heart to settle with the fact of the relatives and friends that passed away before my mother, but losing a mother has been my absolute struggle.

This is the first time in my life that I’ve had to give myself reality checks daily, weekly, or even monthly that my mom is gone and she’s not coming back. Just to constantly remind myself that I can’t call my mom when I want to is a battle. Ironically, when mess hits the fan, my mom was the first person I would call.

My mom was my number one cheerleader, and she made my smallest accomplishments seem so big and my biggest dilemmas seem so small.

My mom’s death motivated me to become a Certified Grief Coach. I also wrote and self-published a book dedicated to my mom called, “Letters to Mom: Writing to Heaven.” Talk about turning lemons into lemonade. These are my biggest accomplishments this year.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Last year on Resurrection Sunday, I left my position where I worked for over three years full-time here in Colorado. Shortly after leaving my position, I worked for a church part-time, which led me into ministry for a second time. I’m forever grateful to God for the opportunity the church gave me to learn and grow in ministry.

Because of my past mistakes and challenging life experiences, I ran from the church and from GOD altogether. I assumed there was no place for me in the church. I’m thankful to God for second chances. During my second time in ministry, God allowed me to become an Ordained Minister, which ties into my career as a Certified Grief Coach. Regardless of what our nation is experiencing, I know God put me in this position to allow me to heal, as well as help others to heal.

Besides helping others to heal, I also teach aspiring authors to write and self-publish their books. I’m a Writing Coach!

I’m different from other writing coaches because I hold my clients accountable for their dreams of becoming a published author. I don’t believe in giving up and I don’t allow my clients to give up. We keep running the race until we have their book in our hands. We set realistic goals and we finish what we start!

How can people work with you, collaborate with you, or support you?

Being from the south, I absolutely love people. I love helping people and I love watching them grow. I love cheering people on. I want to see people WIN!

I have both a 12-Week Grief Program and a 12-Week Writing Program. Anyone interested in either program can visit my website and set a FREE-15-minute consultation to see if my programs are for them. I don’t believe in accepting clients just to fill my schedule. I genuinely want to have a connection with my clients because it’s not just about the money. It’s about my clients’ success.

When I wrote my book, “Letters to Mom: Writing to Heaven”, I dedicated my book to my mom and made a goal of selling at least 400 copies. Now I know I can supersede that goal, and now that’s the new goal. I want my book to reach over 400 people. I now want to reach 4 thousand people with my book, or maybe even 40 thousand. Either way, I can only reach my goal with the support of others. My book, “Letters to Mom” is available to purchase on my website and on Amazon. I’m definitely looking to connect or collaborate on projects with women who share my experience of being motherless.
