Meet Lashara Harris of Shara Harris The Mua

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lashara Harris.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My love for makeup started at the age of 15. My grandmother who was a local boutique owner was the greatest influence a young girl could have. She was the epitome of class & sass and with a boutique brand to uphold she always looked her best everywhere she went. With her, as an example, I wanted to be just like her & with that came flawless makeup. So Here I am 15 yrs old with a full face of makeup, eyelashes included wanting to be a great reflection of my “Nana”.

As the years passed I would continue my craft throughout college as extra income & book small city photo shoots with local students and graduates. After my first child in 2013 & a couple adversities, I went on to freelance under a concepts coordinator for a year around Dallas. I built more clientele through that exposure & added 40+ weddings in the year 2016 to my portfolio & Mua belt.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
At 23 the yr 2013 I had my first child… And 6 weeks later at my postpartum checkup, I was diagnosed with a rare blood disorder, Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura. It was a scary time in my life because it took a 2nd opinion in the course of 5 months before a cure was presented. I went on to undergo 6 infusion treatments to reverse the disorder.

During that time period I couldn’t work with the possibly debilitating symptoms so instead, I would spend my free time practicing makeup techniques. Makeup essentially became an escape and form of therapy for me. With my faith, God really allowed that moment in my life to be the opportunity for me to hone the craft. After a year of recovery completely healthy again I gained enough confidence to take on clients. From there, business took off like wildfire.

2016 would be become the year after adversity, working a night job at a warehouse, being a single parent to my son & taking care of my Ill mother that I would step out on faith to become the business that I am today. #SSMUA

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Shara Harris The Mua – what should we know?
I am a local makeup artist… and I specialize in enhancing natural beauty. I believe with my standard of business that sometimes makeup can be scary. So I am proud to be able to set a peaceful and calming atmosphere with candles/warm aromas & soothing music.

Often time so soothing that clients fall asleep lol. And I never know if someone is in my chair to escape things that are going on in their lives or if that is just there a moment of peace. With those combinations and my always vibrant energy, I want the experience to be something that is welcoming and that they can return to.

I am home based in a private room where clients can enjoy there a moment in Glam. So I think that welcoming aspect is what sets me apart from others. I also offer makeup classes and one on ones. Where’s beginners and intermediate learners can improve technique for just an everyday look or for future clients.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I would say listening to clients and what they desire and offering great customer service… My rule of thumb is that after I’m done you’ll still look like yourself.

Word of mouth has gained me a lot of clientele… so they appreciate that I offer a soft and subtle glam. On top of the ambiance that I set for their experience, they can be reassured that through the booking process & service that I am professional at all times.
