Meet Lauren Lewchuk

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Lewchuk.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve always been creative ever since I was a child. However, my professional journey in art started in 2019. Previously, I was working lots of different jobs and ended up with a diverse set of skills like screen printing, faux finishes, and prop fabrication, graphic design, vinyl installation, mural painting, etc. I had always wanted to be an artist though, and so in 2019, I decided to make a change and focus on fine art, and I started to apply to lots of exhibitions. I started to meet lots of new people in the art community as well, which led to more opportunities, and things just went from there. Lately, I’ve been focused on fine art, murals, and pattern design. Currently, I operate out of my studio in Tin District in West Dallas. I love being in an environment where I’m surrounded by lots of emerging and established artists in Dallas.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’d say, all things considered, it’s been pretty smooth, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s been easy. I’ve done well for myself but the main obstacle is that there can be lots of unknown in this business. It can be feast or famine. It can be difficult not knowing when the next mural gig or big project will be. The main trick is to never give up. I’ve noticed that in the times when I felt the most discouraged, I just kept going, and then the next big thing happened. There are lots of ways to keep putting your work out there and promoting yourself, and networking. And those tend to be the ways that bring in the work.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a fine artist, muralist, and designer. I create detailed and elaborate compositions inspired by nature, especially micro-organisms and nature macro-photography. I primarily work in acrylic on wood or canvas. My work ranges from very small-scale fine art to large-scale murals. So far, my biggest mural project is an underpass mural in Turtle Creek that measures over 2000 square feet and covers several surfaces. I also create a lot of digital work, including seamless patterns that can be used for textiles and surfaces. I also had the amazing opportunity to create patterns for an exclusive fabric collection with Joann Stores. I’d say I’m most proud of the fact that I have spent so much time creating a cohesive body of work that I feel is recognizable. I also tough it out and keep putting my work out there even when things seem slow-moving. It’s so important to constantly promote your wins and achievements and what you’ve been working on and experimenting with. You never know what opportunities are going to come your way.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
