Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Paschall Burcham.
Lauren, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I got married in December of this past year. It is funny because most brides want nothing to do with anymore wedding planning after their wedding is over. For me, it was different. I missed wedding planning so much! The decor, the creativity, talking to vendors, it was so fun for me! My sister got married this past March, and I helped plan her wedding. This sparked me to, literally the day after her wedding, start an event planning business. I amped my website a little, created some packages for my services, advertised on some bridal Facebook groups a little, and went from there! Today, we have almost 70 weddings booked. I have hired another head planner/coordinator who does weddings on her own as well, and we love what we do!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I love what I do, but it is not always easy. The first struggle that came a month or so into starting my business, is how much pressure it actually is. Being a wedding/event planner is everything people think it is. Its fun, it’s rewarding, it’s joyful, but at the same time it is stressful. We have almost 70 weddings booked, as well as other events. That’s 70 brides. 70 grooms. 140 mothers who want the best for their children. If the cake does not show up, that’s on me. If the bride’s dress rips, I am supposed to fix it. If the power goes out at the venue, I find generator. It is our jobs 100% to make sure every aspect of our clients wedding goes perfectly, even if that means taking the responsibility of fixing something outside of our control. Sometimes it can feel scary to be responsible for making our clients wedding day go without flaw. This is the first day of the rest of their lives together, and the most important day in our client’s lives to date. You have to be someone who loves challenges, and intense pressure situations to do what we do. We love it. Another struggle that comes to mind is the post-wedding sadness. I become so close with some of my clients and their families. Sometimes, I will talk to my clients daily. Once their wedding/event gets here and it is over, I feel bittersweet. I am happy to know another beautiful couple had an amazing wedding and someone else experience a successful event, but it makes me sad knowing some of these people, I will sometimes never talk to again.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Laurel Crowned Weddings & Events – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Laurel Crowned Weddings & Events is an event and wedding planning company. We specialize in the planning and coordinating of events all across the DFW area. Our accommodating and affordable services along with our creative design ideas are what we are known for. We try to go above and beyond in serving our clients doing more than what we are expected to do. Yes, we will and have gone car to car with an umbrella bring each guest into the reception venue while a storm is happening. We will get on our hands and knees in the middle of a dance floor to clean up a spilled drink so no one slips. We will take over as the DJ if they do not show up. Whatever we need to do to make our clients happy is what we will do, and that is really what sets us apart, and is something we are most proud of.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
In the near future, I hope to hire more planners and coordinators so we can be able to plan more beautiful weddings and amazing events. We are planning to open an office within the next year or two, where we can meet with clients, store our decor rentals, and more. We are also planning to host a bridal workshop once every few months to help brides who do not have wedding planners in their budget. We will help them in planning/executing their vision on their budget, as well as making their timelines and other things. I am so excited to see what the future holds for us!
