Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Nixon.
Lisa, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Writing has always been a passion of mine. Whether it was creating short stories in talented and gifted classes in my younger years or as a journalism student in high school, I’ve always found the most joy creating authentically as a writer. For many years, I undertook small paid projects as a writer and created more so for personal interest and my love of writing.
In early 2018 after joining Thirty Something Podcast as a host and content creator, I began to focus more on growing professionally as a writer and content creator. My role with Thirty Something Podcast, as well as select family and friends, encouraged me to be more vulnerable as a creative and to relinquish my fear of sharing my innate gift of writing with others. In the summer of 2019, I was given the opportunity to write the cover story for Geek Plus Magazine on Houston based rapper Slim Thug and his team. This led to my current role serving as a contributing writer for the magazine with several articles published to date. As I entered 2020, I was determined to move from my position in corporate America and pursue writing and content creation on a full-time basis. That move happened sooner than expected when COVID 19 put corporate travel (the industry in which I worked) at a halt.
However, it served as a blessing in disguise and I found myself immersed in growing my company, Awriter Eleven. In April 2020, utilizing my professional background in sales and educational background in marketing along with my writing skills, I created an Ebook that provides valuable information to entrepreneurs and service-based professionals with regards to pivoting during a crisis: Five Tips For Entrepreneurs, Small Business Owners and Service Professionals To Survive COVID 19 and Beyond. Currently in addition to the content and copy services I offer through my company and freelance writing opportunities I have with print and online media publications, I am completing a motivational book aptly titled “If I Help Someone Along My Way” slated for a winter 2020 release.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Once I accepted the challenge to make my own personal goal of being able to walk into a room and introduce myself as A WRITER a reality rather than a dream. I can honestly say that the journey thereafter has been fairly smooth. Any challenges I face are met with optimism because I am doing what I enjoy doing. Life prior to doing so wasn’t smooth because I felt unfulfilled in my career and it left me with no energy or motivation to create as a writer.
Awriter Eleven – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Awriter Eleven provides content and copywriting solutions that include a wide range of services (ghostwriting, editing, proofreading, creating bios and about me pages and updating website copy, to name a few) to individuals and small to midsize companies. We also create content for our clients on various media platforms that increase engagement and aids in building the businesses brand awareness. We provide copy and white pages for businesses that exemplify seamless internal and external communications.
In addition we provide solutions through marketing copy to promote clients’ products and services, writing blog posts about industry-related topics and promoting content on social media platforms. That will assist our clients in growing profitability and expand their reach to potential customers. I also share my personal thoughts on a plethora of relevant topics and current events and life through blog posts on the website in addition to other published and unpublished works that I’ve written.
What sets our company apart from others is the uncanny ability to transform words that give the clients we serve a voice for themselves, their brand or content needs that are on current trend, yet timeless. We pride ourselves in providing an expedited turnaround time on requested services because we understand how content and copy can serve as the first impression of our client’s business to their potential customers. We also work diligently to provide content that supports our clients in growing their business as it relates to gaining new clients and increasing their business revenue. I am most proud that I am not a niche writer. I truly am able to convey meaningful content across diverse industries and platforms.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
As an entrepreneur, I find something to be proud of each day as my company grows and we gain new clients through trust-based relationships. What sticks out to me the most is when my nieces expressed how proud they were of me starting my company and hearing how excited they were to read things I created as a writer. As well as my daughter wanting to go into entrepreneurship from seeing me start and grow Awriter Eleven that motivated her to be her own boss and my sons are taking time to ask about my company and a simple question of “what are you working on”, means alot because it shows that my success and happiness with my career matters to them. Those acknowledgments of my career as a writer and the company Awriter Eleven, are what have made me most proud thus far.
