Today we’d like to introduce you to Lorena Moreno.
Lorena, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve been in the industry for 13 years. I’ve been an independent educator for 2 years. I started at the very bottom working my way up in this industry. But it wasn’t until I became an artistic educator for Pravana that my creativity exploded & I realized how truly passionate I am about the industry! Being torn down by fellow stylist/ salon owners. I realized I never want to be that way, but instead I desire to build up fellow industry professionals. No matter what level they’re on. I realized how much I was in love with learning, teaching, inspiring and being inspired! Now I get to travel all over and work trade shows & meet salon owners of all types as a hair and makeup artist & teaching new techniques to so many eager salon professionals!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. I’ve struggled with getting into a rut of being uninspired and being set in certain ways. Especially as a booth renter it’s easy to fall into this. Not making enough money, feeling like I wasn’t making a difference etc. Also being discouraged by people who did not want to see me succeed. Not to mention struggling with formulating and adapting to the many changes in the industry & society / social media, as an independent business owner.
Graceful Glam – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My business, Graceful Glam is just me for now. I specialize in color correction & Blonding. I take so much pride in my work, work ethic and overall customer service experience for each client who sits in my chair. I give full undivided & focused attention to each guest. I only do around 3 clients a day, as to ensure I am bringing the best quality hair care for my clients. I am humble and desire to bring value, worth & confidence to each client. Along with amazing hair of course! I truly feel the personal relationship and educating my clients with honesty & truth is what sets my business apart.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me means leaving people, not only guests but fellow industry professionals, employees etc. with an amazing experience, confidence & a lasting impression. Lifting other people up and pouring your knowledge into someone else is also success to me. It’s not about how far we make it, it’s about how many people we lift up with us that’s most important.
