Today we’d like to introduce you to Lori McDermett.
Lori, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have been working in the wedding industry since my senior year of high school and knew right away this was the world I was supposed to live in. I started shadowing an event planner and within that same year, began working at Hidden Creek, a wedding venue in Health, TX. During this time, I had the honor to work alongside some of Texas’ finest women in the wedding/event industry; Betsy Baldwin and Cassey Chapman, both local florists and event planners. They taught me all the ins and outs of this business, and most importantly, how to love and care for any client. I learned a lot in those first few months, like how to fold napkins in different ways, how to coordinate a ceremony, and so much more, but I learned quickly that my heart really belonged to flowers. 2019 New Years rolled around and I decided, as any sane person would, that it would be the perfect time to launch my very own company. I was already taking the semester off, so it was the perfect opportunity to give it a go on my own. I came up with a plan and got to work. I knew that for this business to make it in the Dallas area, I would have to do something different. At the very heart of my company, I wanted people to know they are loved. I want my brides to be able to look back at their wedding always remember the love they shared. I got brave one day and did a test run Valentine’s Day 2019, and after that business took off! I was shocked at how many people chose to invest in me.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some struggles I faced included knowing where to start and where to go next. Luckily, I have people in my life who helped me in every aspect and supported me every step of the way. I thought my biggest issue would be people finding my business, but God has blessed me and put so many people in my path! Sometimes I am so overwhelmed with all the business, but then I remember it is so worth it to see someone’s vision come together.

f.lori.sh designs by lori: A company based in Dallas, Tx, that strives to create beautiful arrangments, unique to each person. At f.lori.sh, I hope to not only make your event one to remember but also spread love and kindness. My main mission is to spread God’s love by arranging his beautiful creations in such a way it sings His praise.
I specialize in weddings and individualized orders. I love getting to hear love stories from husbands buying flowers for his 40 year anniversary, or celebrating a mom who supports her family no matter what. It has been a joy getting to be a part of all life events. From baby showers to weddings, and even funerals, I have been blessed to do life with so many different people.
What sets this company apart is the love for love. I have always been inspired by people’s love, and flowers are a great way to show it. I take pride in every arrangement, even when I have to stay up all night to get it done! I love hearing someone’s unique vision for their loved one and find such joy in seeing their reactions! This company also is a big believer in giving back and helping others. I know how life can really take it out of a person at times, and try to help in every way possible to make their vision become a reality.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Perseverance.
So many times, it would have been easier to just throw in the towel and call it a day, but if I took that attitude, I would not be where I am today. Nothing great in life comes easy, it always takes hard work. The easy way is not the rewarding way. I love it when a challenge comes my way. I love it when things don’t always go as planned. If I wanted a predictable and safe job, I would not be in the event industry.
