Meet Mack Hall of Mack Is in East

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mack Hall.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Mack. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Art is in my DNA, artists are everywhere on my dad’s side of my family. My dad was primarily a sketch artist and that’s what I was drawn to (pun intended). I will admit that even though, I had been sketching most of my life, I didn’t get good until 12th grade when my art teacher expanded my horizons and encouraged me to avoid anything that was “trite”. I use that word today to propel me forward in the work that I do. After I graduated high school, I wanted to go to college for Graphic Design & Web Design. After finding out how much The Dallas Art Institute costs… I chose Eastfield. While attending Eastfield and taking classes that had nothing to do with Graphic Design, I decided to teach myself. I started with Macromedia Fireworks. I was late to the graphic design thing, I was the last person I knew to even get a computer but when I discovered the possibilities, I dedicated so much time to it that I barely slept. After I felt I did everything that I could do with Fireworks, I looked for software that was more powerful and had more features… that led me to Photoshop. Honestly, it all goes back to my dad, growing up I saw chalk, protractors, rulers, paint brushes and even fabric and sewing machines. I made my own teddy bear when I was in kindergarten because my dad wanted me to know how to sew. Today, I’m still learning the ins and outs of Photoshop. I’m also teaching myself photography, just to add a new aspect to my arsenal.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been smooth but it’s been worth it. In hindsight, I needed to make certain mistakes, just to create the things that I created. My biggest problem has always been taking time for granted. I still struggle with using my time wisely. I also struggle with having the confidence to charge customers what I feel my time is worth. In turn, it keeps me and my business stagnated and unable to grow or transition to another level.

Please tell us about Mack Is.
Mack is… a business that’s tough to explain because what I feel I specialize in, doesn’t make me the most money. I turn daydreams into reality. I specialize in taking vintage pieces of art and seamlessly merging them with normal selfies or taking photos and turn them into exciting movie posters, CD covers or flyers. What makes me most proud is how trying to operate a business has forced me to change my personality. I’m more sociable, outgoing and less anxious when entering a new environment and/or meeting new people. What sets me apart from others is my originality, I try to do the opposite of what everyone is doing… which isn’t good for my business most of the time.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Riding my bike in the summertime, with nothing to do and without a care in the world.

Dope work! I have known this guy for a while and he has always been very creative, so to see him doing something that allows his creativity to run wild does not surprise me at all! Not to mention that he is a great person as well. This should definitely get you some clients who appreciate what you are worth!
