Today we’d like to introduce you to Maks Sobolyev.
Maks, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Originally from Donetsk, Ukraine, I landed here at a very young age with my mom to figure out what I wanted to be. My mother taught me how to work diligently, build my own path, and create the spark in me to see the world in a different lens. From there, filmmakers such as Bergman, Tarkovsky, and Kubrick inspired me to experiment with color, texture and perspective through many mediums to create concepts that took me to distant worlds. Growing up with classic cartoons (ranging from Slavic fairy tales to John Dilworth) and a craving to find my expression through writing short stories helped structure this vehicle I have been sailing around for quite some time.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
A lot of life is filled with moments of strife and serendipity, which couldn’t exist without each other. The most difficult thing is to find yourself continuously, stay on the right path, and not let financial struggles or painful experiences to drag you down. There were losses of friends, family, and shifts in jobs throughout my life that gave me some strange, yet profound experiences. The most grateful thing I learned to cope with feeling alone or losing your proclivity to success is that throughout all of this friends and family will find you to be there on your journey. Every obstacle has been there become part of my experience and my inspiration.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Max Yuri – what should we know?
I love to work in many avenues and aspects of creating. Whether it is freelance photography, or working on production for films, or commission work with digital and experimental art. My passion is working with clients closely to create projects with others that are one of a kind; ranging from studio photos, DJ’s, producers, or promoters.
I have built skills over the years to be able to work with many different software, cameras, and lenses.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
The most essential quality is to be in the present moment. No other lesson will glue you to the thought to keep going and at that point, life will open up and become fuller.
