Meet Mara Hauser, Founder & CEO fo 25N Coworking

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mara Hauser.

Hi Mara, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I first began my career as an interior designer before shifting into a consulting role. Prior to founding 25N, I spent ten years helping companies optimize performance through change management. Through this experience, I began implementing shared workspace concepts into corporate environments. Since then, enterprise companies from all across the country have come to me to make their spaces more productive. Thus, 25N Coworking was born!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The way I see it, the entrepreneur’s journey is rarely a straight line. Rather, it’s a series of ups and downs, backs and forths, and sometimes, you may stop and create a whole new line. There have certainly been unexpected obstacles along my personal journey. A few come to mind regarding opening my latest endeavor, 25N Coworking. The first surprise to me was simply how little folks in the suburbs knew about coworking options in general. When we first opened our doors in a great building on the main street of town with fabulous retail windows, passers-bypassers-by struggled to figure out what we were by our name on the door. Some thought maybe we were a furniture store. We wound up installing “messaging” words on the windows that literally spelled out what we did. “Meeting Rooms by the hour;” “Private offices,” “Workspace by the day,” etc. A heavier example took place at our first location. Within the first year, we were forced to move our entire operation soon after opening our doors. The owner of the building was attempting to absorb our business, and we had to relocate in order for the business to survive. It was quite a bump in the road, but it worked out in the end.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
25N Coworking is more than workspace and bottomless coffee — we are a community built on the people we connect with and the opportunities we create. Our workplaces are designed to spark collaboration and productivity, and our intuitive hospitality professionals help our members sail through their workweek. We strive to nurture the business ecosystems that grow in our coworking spaces, and our magnetic energy is proof: we’re changing the way we work. I wanted to run into potential clients and collaborators as often as fellow PTA members and chummy soccer moms. I also wanted facilities where I could seamlessly flow from private, focused work to making useful connections. I wanted the full suburban experience packed into one holistic workday. By using my background in interior design, I brought this idea to life in the form of 25N Coworking. We have successfully opened three locations in just over two years of 25N Coworking’s existence, and I’ve developed a flexible Management Services Agreement model with performance incentives and greater upside potential than traditional leases.

How do you think about happiness?
Professionally, it brings me joy to walk into our 25N locations and see our Members using the spaces as we intended: for collaboration, productivity and making connections. My other source of happiness at work is watching the growth and success of our staff in their roles. Our culture is the glue that binds us, so we pay great attention to developing our team from within for long-term, committed employees that will take us to the next level, year after year. Personally, my happiness comes from my family— specifically, watching from the “sidelines” (soccer mom talk) as my two amazing daughters take off on their careers and new adventures. I love seeing them thrive.
