Meet Marcus Dodson of The Godfath3r Photography in Central

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcus Dodson.

Marcus, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
During the Summer of 2016 I was in summer school at Prairie View A&M University and I was doing a summer radio show. I wanted to record my shows so I rented out a Canon from the school. Instead of recording my shows I started taking pictures all across campus and at Summer Lake Nights, a series of concerts the school puts on. I’ve always loved photography and once I got a camera in my hands I just kept going.

Has it been a smooth road?
Well my journey as a photographer so far has been one of many personal challenges. Questioning myself, comparing myself to others almost led to my downfall as a photographer. But God be the glory because I kept striving to be a better photographer and I’m blessed to have come this far.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
Well “The Godfath3r” was my personality back when I was in radio. I eventually brought it over it over to be my name as a photographer and business. I mainly shoot concerts, parties and The Marching Storm. I would say my style is Black&White photography. I adopted my style of editing from my favorite photographer Greg Noire. I’m beyond proud of my company because it’s something I started on my own and I’m very excited to see where it takes me in life. Personally what I believe that sets me apart from others is my conviction to always be better than I was yesterday as a photographer, I’m my own competition.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
There’s always something to do, it’s never a dull day. I can’t stand the traffic.

Pricing:

  • I charge $125 an hour for parties and events.
  • For grad portraits I have a fixed rate of $220.
