Meet Maria Aceves of Aceves Law

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria Aceves.

Hi Maria, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I grew up in the DFW area and graduated from Southern Methodist University with a B.A. in International Studies and double minors in Political Science and History. I also graduated from SMU Dedman School of Law and passed the Texas bar in 2013. While in law school and after graduation, I interned for a civil district court judge in Dallas County. It was during that time that I discerned my passion for public service.

During the next couple of years, I worked at a prominent defense firm and then at an excellent boutique catastrophic injury firm. Four years ago, I started my own firm as a trial lawyer representing plaintiffs in personal injury cases. Although I love being a trial lawyer, the opportunity arose for me to run for public office. Therefore, after consulting with my family and friends, as well as mentors in the legal community, I have decided to run for the 192nd Judicial District Court in Dallas County in 2022.

I have the right background for this Court, with broad experience in civil litigation working for both defendants and plaintiffs. I have a thorough knowledge of court operations and proceedings, both through my work as an attorney appearing before courts, and also because I have had the opportunity to work for one of our Dallas County civil district courts.

I invite you to learn more about me at my campaign website, or by following me on Facebook.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Being a lawyer has not always been a smooth road. There were various transitions in my career including starting my own firm four years ago. Although it was difficult at the time, it was truly one of the best decisions that I made for my career and personal life. Through operating my own firm, I have gained strong management, networking, and business development skills that have allowed my business to thrive. I also strongly believe that the skills I have acquired through managing my own firm will assist me in administering justice effectively and efficiently if I am elected as judge of the 192nd Civil District Court.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As a result of hard work and dedication to my clients, I have been selected, four years in a row, to the prestigious Super Lawyers Texas Rising Stars List 2019-2022. I have also been selected to the Top 40 Under 40 List from 2017-2021 by the National Trial Lawyers; the 10 Best Attorney List in Client Satisfaction for 2018-2019 by the American Institute of Personal Injury Attorneys; the 10 Best Female Personal Injury Attorney List for 2019 by the American Institute of Personal Injury Attorneys; the Top 10 Personal Injury Attorney List in 2019 by Attorney and Practice Magazine; the Top 10 Personal Injury Attorney Under Age 40 List by the National Academy of Personal Injury Attorneys in 2019; and listed among the Top 100 Personal Injury Attorneys for 2020 by America’s Top 100 Personal Injury Attorneys.
