Meet Marisol Orozco of Sol & Co. in Irving

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marisol Orozco.

Marisol, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Initially, my story began with my innate love for jewelry, and earrings in particular. However, I always found myself finding small faults in certain designs and styles. I became inspired to create a new product that was more tailored to individual needs, as opposed to a mass produced and generic feel. I wanted to take something so widely available and give it a more homey, personal touch; something crafted with love and care. As a stay at home mom, I found myself striving to both cares for my child and pursue my career aspirations, and found the perfect balance with my small business. I devoted my passion for earrings and style to my designs and products. It has taken a tremendous amount of dedication and determination to get where I am presently. I plan to continue this journey and continue expanding, improving and innovating my creations moving forward.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Anything worth having will come with its fair share of obstacles. One of the most prominent in my experience has been getting my brand off the ground and into the eyes and ears of potential buyers. Because the market is so vast, competitors are everywhere and it is difficult to stand out as one of a kind. That, along with being a full-time mom to a very rambunctious one year old, all the while taking part in marketing events, crafting the pieces themselves, and finding balance with my family/me time, have been the most challenging aspects of my journey thus far.

Sol & Co. – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My specialty is handcrafted earrings that provide both style and comfort. One of the biggest drawbacks with earrings can be their weight and the toll that takes on such a sensitive area of the body as the earlobe. What sets me apart from others is my incomparable attention to detail and methodical approach to perfecting my pieces. My company is based on a homespun quality that will always make my customers feel like their needs come first. As someone who was all too familiar with the generic products in the jewelry market, I wanted to be a force of positive change.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment in my career thus far has been having people from all over the city come up to me when they see me out and about with my family and show me they’re wearing my jewelry. It brings tears to my eyes, knowing people love what I do as much as I love what I do.
