Meet Martha Rincon of Thrive Photography in Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Martha Rincon.

Martha, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My love for photography sparked when I was 15 years old. At that time, I didn’t miss a show that was taking place in town and remember how fascinated I was by the photographers. I was able to feel the energy and emotions that the music photographers would capture in those given moments. It inspired me to capture my own kind of special moments through the lens of my phone. I was in love with taking pictures of anything and everything around me that inspired me in some way. I started posting all my captured moments on social media, and people took notice of the eye I had for photography. By the time I reached the age of 18, I bought my first camera and made what once started as an interest into a form of living. I’m blessed to say that photography has helped me grow into the person I am today.

Has it been a smooth road?
Like any creative outlet, there have most definitely been some obstacles along the way. There have been times where I wasn’t taken seriously because I am a female photographer. For the longest, I would constantly beat myself up by thinking I wasn’t good enough. I’d compare my work to others, and had people look down on my work. Going through creative blocks was and still is something I continue to work on. I feel like there’s this stigma that you have to have the best camera, the best lenses, and a certain style of editing for people to notice your capability. However, I’m a firm believer that a camera does not define your work. You, yourself define it. The world of a photographer has endless possibilities and I strive to learn something new every day.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I specialize in portrait photography in the DFW metroplex. I do a variety of work within it but my main focus is fashion. I have done editorials for Urban Outfitters Dallas and Buffalo Exchange Dallas. I am the photographer for my clothing line called Las Locas and constantly get booked sessions. I would say I am known for displaying my culture and values into my photography. As a Latina in the visual arts industry, I take a lot of pride in who I am and what I do and ultimately, I’d like to say that that is what sets me apart from others.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I believe that it all begins by growing within your art in your community. There’s this belief that the only way people will succeed in their creative element is if they move to popular cities such as LA or New York, but I think Dallas is definitely thriving within the art community and delivers immense exposure in culture and diversity. Whatever you are passionate about, you will find it in Dallas and that’s what I love best about our city.
